I am looking for a pair of good used black vinyl door cards for a 1998 996 3.4 C2. They need to be the type without any airbag or speaker cut outs. I nave been advised Boxster door cards are not the same - does anyone know what the difference is? If you can help please get in touch. I also have for sale a complete 1998 996 interior trim in Savannah including the seats door cards carpets etc as removed from a 55000 mile car - in really excellent condition. Thanks and regards. Zeusy.

I am still looking for a pair of early 996 door cards - I will take any colour if they are the right spec as above. Please let me know ASAP if you can help.

Thanks & regards.

Comparing the two online look very similar to me. Have you tried Douglas Car Breakers who specialise in Porsche salvage?

Hello Tony.

Thanks for your reply.

I have indeed asked most of the main marque breakers and they have all said the same thing i.e. whilst Boxster door cards will fit on a 996 door shell the handles / connections etc are not the same.

Boxster door cards are very easy to find and very cheap - there are some on e-bay @ £15.00 and you can take your pick in any colour you want - but this is not so with those for the 996 which are much rarer and far more expensive.

Douglas Valley have a huge range available - they must have more Boxsters in their yard than any other breaker in the country but when I went there they only seemed to have a few 996's in comparison and none with what I was looking for.

I do have a pair of the correct pattern from a 996 but they are part of a really excellent full interior in Savannah Beige which I am loathe to split up.

Also my old 996 road car is an early '98 model and this is fitted with the exact pair in black vinyl that I want to put into my track car but can I heckers like find another set!

So - this being the case I think I will just have to settle for any pair of 996 door cards that I can find for now and make do with them until I manage to pick up a pair of the right type.

Thanks & regards.

I’ve just taken apart the door cards from my boxster, the only difference I can see are the actual door pull design.

On a 986 these are a 2 piece design and have a clip on cover that goes above the internal door handle. I’ve enclosed a photo of my door card with the cover removed.

On a 996 these are a 1 piece design and have no separate clip on cover. I also think they have the little light which the 986 does not have.

So if you’re happy with a slightly different design and no lights then I don’t see the reason why they won’t fit as the door.

They look much cleaner without the airbags and speaker!

Hi Mazza.

Yep - those on your car are exactly what I am looking for and I agree they are indeed the best looking option.

I have however managed to find a pair in black but with the speaker cut outs - they were an easy straightforward simple direct fit - so why I have been told the opposite by several breakers I remain mystified to say the least.

They look absolutely fine on my track car and will do for the moment but now I know that the Boxster door cards fit I will keep looking for a pair like yours.

On my travels for 996 parts and whatnot I have also found out that Renault front and rear windscreen rubber seals are a better looking and much better fit than the Porsche originals and cost pennies in comparison.

Bangernomics is such fun!

Thanks & regards.
