996 C4S queries

A few miscellaneous queries as I look to improving the 996 C4S for summer

1. Can anyone confirm if Recaro Sportster CS Cross (being the flat base version more similar to the OEM sports seats) actually fit in a 996 ?
2. I plan to change out the shocks as they are now 18 years old. I was thinking Ohlins but I want to keep the stock C4S ride height - is it possible ?
3. My book records the codes for headlight washers only and when I took it to JZM for few fix ups one of the items they identified and repaired was broken self levelling arms. Does this mean despite the options codes that I have Litronics ? The lights aren’t great but perhaps just needs new bulbs and a repolish of the glass.

thanks for any advice. Fairly new to Porsche. Planning a 928 next.

Welcome Matt!

The ride height depends on the spring length (the platform heights on the shocks are the same for M029 and M030 suspension) so if you only change the shocks, the ride height won't change. Unless you are thinking of coilovers, of course. If the reason for change is age/loss of efficiency, maybe consider Bilstein B6's. I fitted them to my 996 Turbo, and they were a great improvement.

Option 601 is Litronics. Does your book or boot lid sticker show that? I don't believe the levelling system would work on non-Litronics, so it would seem logical that you have them. I would try removing a headlight and take a peek at the bulbs.

i can't help with the seats, I'm afraid. They look nice though!

thanks Richard. The Ohlin’s R&T are coilovers - though it I can’t get an answer perhaps I’ve just change to new OEM springs and B6 or B8 shocks

The book doesn’t show 601 hence my confusion. All my research suggests that if you have headlight washers and self levelling, they should be Litronic ?????

If you go with Ohlins coilovers, I would have thought that you could adjust the ride height to suit. If it was me, I would have a word with Chris Franklin at Center Gravity, as he probably has more experience of 996 setups than anyone else in the country. Lovely chap, and in my experience always happy to help. He refurbed my Turbo when the B6's were fitted. By the way, standard 996 shockers aren't standard Bilsteins - they are re-valved to suit. Often called "the accountant's choice" of shock absorber. Real B6's are a big improvement.

I can only think of one member who has fitted the Ohlins kit - https://www.porscheclubgb.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=966307

The Litronics are a mystery to me - like I said, try pulling out the headlamp and check the bulbs.

Thanks. Porsche suspension options aren‘t simple. Turns out even the "C4S has Turbo Brake’s and suspension” line isn’t quite true
