Hi guys,
cayenne won’t start this morning.... again. Seems the car cant ’sense’ we are pressing the brake pedal and won’t engage the starter. We already had this before Christmas and the car was towed to OPC in South London. Apparently two error codes were cleared, one from the start&stop system and one from the starter. Nothing was changed on the car as everything seems to be working fine.

any of you have experienced this? Not sure it is Cayenne specific...

would appreciate your imputs

Pretty common problem with other models, faulty brake switch which doesn't usually show on any diagnostics.Similar can happen with clutch switch on manual cars. Worth a check.

Hi

We had this on our 957 4.8S, turned out to the be the starter motor, don't remember the exact cause but starter wasn't engaging due to an electrical issue, water ingress was involved. Had to replace the starter motor in the end, expensive as its buried down between the V of the cylinders, lots of dismantling to reach it.

If you sometimes (but not always) get a message telling you to press the brake pedal when you already are, my bet would be the interlock switch on the brake pedal (assuming the Cayenne is the same as sports cars). Typically doesn't throw any diagnostics even though it is supposed to, therefore OPC doesn't even try to change it as a simple first step. Worth a check. I may be completely wrong of course.

doesn't seems to be the brake switch, but the motor starter. Very odd again as the car has been with Porsche since nearly two weeks now as they were not sure where the problem was coming from...

Expensive indeed!

Hi my 987.1 refused to fire up this morning. My battery is only 18M old. I wonder , if it is a starter motor? I have read issues about such issues , any suggestions please ?
It is 5 speed manual.
Many Thanks

Baldev Atwal.

Morning , I have read mixed reports over whether it is a good or bad idea to leave my Boxster 987.1 ticking over during the cold snap.
I would welcome any views and relevant advice . Thank you

The general rule is to start and drive off keep revs low until car up to temp then drive to road conditions .

I have been told don't ..but if you have your car stored and on conditioner and say it is sorned ie no road tax you cannot take it for a short drive , so that may be the only method. I have in the past just turned it over to make sure it started then switched off...others will say different not sure it would do any damage not mechanical minded .perhaps ask a specialist what their thoughts are.
