Clubsport at Silverstone

There was a 718 GT4 Clubsport at Silverstone with a couple of drivers getting familiarisation laps. It was the non-Manthey version suitable for the UK series.

Some pictures.

A road version...[:D]

Why can Lotus offer great colours and Porsche can't?

Yes, great pics showing the degree of suspension adjustability available.

Ralph, just to ask: are the front strut towers the same as for the road car? They look like steel (?) pressings and I thought that they were cast aluminium items - hence the chronicled failures on heavily tracked cars?

Jeff

Jeff,

The top mount towers are the same basic construction. The black part is a steel pressing unique to the race cars, the function of which is to prevent the top mounts, should there be a tower failure, from penetrating up to the frunk.

I don’t think it is an acknowledgement of a weakness, more thoroughness of converting a road to race car.

There is an informed discussion on rennlist.

As to adjustability, there are also split wishbones in addition to the measurement lines on the top mounts. Some KW retail top mounts also have similar measurement lines.

Aluminium or steel, as you will see from the several “how to connect a battery charger“ threads, you can obtain an earth from the top mount tower. There is an image somewhere of materials used in the area - I’ll see if I can find it.

Ralph

Thanks Ralph.

Yes, you can see from this pic of a failed strut tower on a road car that essentially it's the same as the race car. Somehow I just had in mind that it was more obviously a casting - my error.

The steel pressing on the race car will provide some welcome additional bracing in that area.

Jeff
