997 Rear Quarter Stone Chip Foil

Kenton

New member
Hi,
I had a stone chip on my sill repaired by a reputable and authorised Porsche body shop (earlier this year). He explained that he would have to remove the Rear Quarter Stone Chip Foil to stop it getting contaminated, but also explained that he would not replace it as it was very tricky and costly if he messed it up. I have since had a mechanic friend try to replace it however it has some small air bubbles. Does anyone know of anyone who specialises in this sort of work. Thanks in advance.

Hi Kenton,

Do you mean the transparent film that sits in front of the rear wheel arch? I assume so. When I had a repair carried out on my previous car, a 993, it was replaced with no problem by a bodyshop who also did PPF. I would suggest looking for a PPF specialist local to you. I can recommend one in Telford if thats near to you. I am surprised a Porsche approved bodyshop didn't want to do it.

It's not a difficult task. [8|]
If you're refitting the original and it retains its adhesive, just wet the surface of the panel, spread the film out evenly, using a thickish credit card or similar. Check all the air bubbles are removed and the edges are not lifting, then leave to dry.

But often the process of removing stretches the old film out of shape. In which case, purchase a small piece of replacement film, cut it to size and fit it in the same way. I think you can order a direct replacement from Porsche too, but I suspect the price may well be prohibitive [:)]

Hi All,
Thanks for the info. No he tried a couple of new ones and put them on wet but had the same issues each time. I will try the place in Telford quite close to me. Thanks for all the advice. Much appreciated.

Kenton,

Yep autoshineandtinting.co.uk . Duncan there did a PPF on the front bumper of my 993. For older cars they cut them to shape on the car and he did a really good job, and no VAT so not expensive. Good luck with it.
