Llandudno

It is just a victim of it’s own success.

For some reason the Harbourmaster has always been difficult to deal with and it seems he has decided to pull the plug. ( according to what I was told )

i am sure the business owners and hoteliers in Llandudno will regret the decision to attract around 800 Porsche owners and their families to the town for a weekend in May.

Nick

In fairness the Harbormasters office has bent over backwards in the past to accommodate PCGB. In fact they have never charged us for the use of the Prom and they have always welcomed us.

I would look for another reason.

Maybe its as a result of a car club incident in Stevenage earlier this year when a significant number of pedestrians were injured after a couple of the associated cars collided before leaving the road and injuring pedestrians.

2020 Porsches on the Prom After much consideration, we have decided not to run 2020 Porsches on the Prom. The first Prom event attracted just 34 cars, but, with numbers increasing every year, we saw over 800 amazing Porsches on the Prom in 2019. The event has now become a victim of its own success. So many cars caused a lot of challenges, both in terms of traffic management and conflicts with other prom users. The Harbour Master has restricted us to only 300 cars and insisted we implement a strictly controlled ticket system, which would feel like a bit of a let down on past years. Also, the bureaucracy that needs to be wrapped around the 2020 event means it has just become too onerous. Disappointing news but we went out with a bang!

This is a terrific shame. This had turned into the weekend of the year.

I would just like to add a thank-you to all the organisers and marshalls who had made this event what it became.

I think a lot of non-PCGB members also turn up which is fine but why not make it a PCGB event only and ask members to use their cards for entry and then close off the prom once the 300 quota has been reached. Like others have been saying, it's a good earner for Llandudno and raises money for charity. I know I am contradicting myself here but I joined PCGB on the prom in 2016 so am guessing the club presence has also brought in new members not to mention the marketing for OPC Chester.

Gutted!

This had become my favourite event of the year, especially the drive there from Essex with several fellow club members in their cars. We would travel up through the lovely Welsh countryside from the Severn bridge all the way to the prom on only A roads. What an awesome drive. We would make a long weekend of it, enjoying the local area, restaurants, nightlife etc. So sad! Hope to see this event return one day... I think we will be in Wales in May anyway!

Great pity it's no more only did it 2 years ago thoroughly enjoyed the whole weekend promised myself I would do again this year. [:(] another great event bites the dust.

I am sure the Hotels and Restaurants will feel the pinch.

Don't worry Cliff - as you can see in the last board minutes there will be lots going on around the South East. Great for us northerners!

Quote from the minutes:

7.11 Pop Up Meets: Now focused on bigger locations for scale. Several good and sizeable locations identified which work for 200+ cars in the South East.

What a huge shame Llandudno is cancelled. I was looking forwards to this just like I have the previous few years.

No disrespect but I don't want to go to the South East. Wales had something very special and I really hope the Region is able to find another location to host this event in the future.

It looks like there is an alternative location - Rhyl. Just seen on FaceBook there is a TIPEC group organising 'A Prom Full of Porsches'. Might be worth looking into.
