Front wing repair panels

At last, my S2 is at the bodyshop and they've started work....lower trailing edge of all four wings, basically.

Fronts are a complex shape as it wraps under, do-able but the question is, please:
Does anybody make repair panels for the front wings?

I've used one of these panels and whilst it wasn't bad it didn't really suit the turbo/S2 wing as it didn't flare out enough, even with some fettling it still wasn't quite right but definitely better than rust. Its since been replaced with a new wing but if you compared sides you could see the difference.

Hi Graham

I have the same panel as shown in Martyn's link, it's a good panel but needs a good fabricator who knows his job to fit it. The first attempt by my Bodyshop I rejected, it had been done by one of the crew who clearly didn't know his stuff. It had been welded on at the wrong angle and the guy had to cut the plastic trim to make it fit. It was glaringly obvious to me that it had been badly fitted. i took the car back along with a profile that i cut out of card from the other side to show what a poor job had been done. The owner who's work I respect greatly ordered a repacement and this time it was done properly, i also got a new under trim as the other was now unfit for purpose.
The fit is great and matches the other side perfectly, in summary, the panels are good and taken from the original but you do need a good Bodyshop to be able to fit it properly. compound curves always need a little extra thought and planning.

Thanks for that. Followed the link....not surprised it needed fettling, fitted photo on their website shows a Lux. Aren't the wings slightly different (front spoiler from an S2 not an exact fit).

Has anybody used the Pro-9 GRP repair panels? Perhaps a better option than filler as at least it's the right shape.....

That area of the wing should be the same shape, the area where they meet the bumper is different,

A decent workshop that deals in restoration should easily be able to fabricate their own repair, but a run of the mill body shop would be happier fitting a repair panel.

Thanks Michael...a valid point, and luckily my body shop has just restored a Mk1 Mini, previously various MGs, and his own Mk1 Escort. all famous for their rust!! Pretty confident he can fabricate a suitable patch after all that.

I looked at just going for broke and replacing both wings, and it was just that...OPC price £838.32 + VAT each, then fitting and painting would have been a lot more. At least we've explored every possibility.

I value all the opinions on here...thanks!

Just an update...the e bay supplier obliged by shortening the lead time, and got the wing panels to me before Christmas. They are nicely made and have fitted well.

Work now continues at the rear, and hoping to get the car back by the end of the month. The body shop's main business is damaged rental cars, and the resto work fits in with that, so it's OK to be patient so they don't rush the job!

Hi Graham,

I have sent you a Private Message re the wing repair panels. Just got a couple of questions.

Cheers, Paul.
