The only thing that I can think of is part of a coil spring but the picture isn't that clear!

The ends do have a flat side but the other side os curved as it is a bent wire, 200mm is around the right size and if it's 13 yrs old it could well be dirty or rusty!

I’ve read on one of the 911 forums about springs snapping while the car is static So Kevan’s theory sounds quite possible.

I’m almost certain that is the bottom part of your coil spring. Very common.

Kind Regards Lee Jones

yes I will get the car on the ramps today and take a look. Im hoping its a remnant of the old broken springs , my seller advised me about ( he had recently replaced the springs ).

thank you all

I have checked and inspected , my springs are intact , this must have been left in the car after the new coils were fitted , Im pleased it fell out while I was in the garage and not when I was out on the road.

thanks for the responses ,

kind regards Ken

On the face of it a broken spring does appear to be most likely Ken. Unsurprising really given the poor state of our roads.

Over the years I've had three spring failures, on non-Porsche cars though - 2 front and one rear spring. In each case it was the base of the spring which failed where the spring was ground flat to sit securely on the strut platform. Although the diameter would be about right for a road spring, your photo looks as though it's a square section (?) - which is rather odd for a road spring as they're usually round section - and it appears to be the same section along its length which would indicate that it came from the main section of the spring.

Did you check the piece against the front and rear springs?

Jeff
