Oil change frequency

My 2008 3.6 C2 tiptronic s has been serviced every two years by different OPC. There is 70k on the clock and I intend on using as my daily ride, 12 miles a day. I usually put about 6000 on a year and that's in keeping with what the car was doing prior to me taking ownership. My question is do I need to think about dropping the oil every year or will the Mobil one be okay for the two years?

Sounds like you'll be lots of short trips regularly, great that you're driving your car regularly, however this routine isn't normally the preferred diet for any performance car. If it was me, I'd be picking up the servicing tempo, and be making sure I got her out for regular "exercise runs" on the weekends where possible. The whole "2 yr/20K mile" thing that you often hear about was put forward by Porsche as much for environmental purposes as any....I'd be lucky to do 5K miles PA, and I've an annual service devotee.

Stephen,

Although your driving circumstances are probably different, for a scientific approach have a look at Brian Innes's post #586 giving the results of an oil analysis on his Cayman 718 GTS: https://www.porscheclubgb.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=1015965&mpage=30

Modern oils and filtration systems are now extremely durable and Porsche will not have extended the oil change interval to 2-years/20,000 miles without conducting a significant amount of development and durability work, subjecting their development cars to much more punishment than any owner would do.

At the end of the day it's your personal choice as to whether or not you stick with Porsche's recommended service interval.

Change the oil and filter every 12 months ,this long life servicing is way to long between servicing

Just my opinion

I shudder at the thought of a 911 being used for only 12 miles a day. Regardless of whether that's round-trip total or 12 miles each way, in both cases, the oil is barely even warmed up before you're turning the engine off. Not a good recipe for oil or even engine longevity.
Firstly - change the oil yearly. As others have said - Oil / filter cheap. Engines, expensive.
Secondly - go the long way round or buy a cheap daily and take the 911 out at weekends for a good, long spanking.

Thanks for the advice , I would probably never use it then. I better tell the guy with the R8 on our car park, who lives closer to me to go and buy a fiesta! My oil is at 90 degrees a mile away from my home at 10 mins of driving. Sure I can tell it's not in the realms of I've been thrashed because the oil pressure isn't dropping on tick over to 1.5 bar. My car has 70k on the clock , no borescore , only 1# 2# in the computer and they can hit 9#. It's had a charmed life, looked after and pampered and quote Cath the best 997 cab she's seen in a long time. I think the main thing is not to thrash it when it's cold and change the oil every 12 months or 6000 miles as recommended by two specialist I've spoken to.
