Best Tyres for 991.1 CS

Mine came with P Zeros but I found them noisy and not very pliable. So I changed to Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 and am very happy but the answer to your question is use what you like but make sure it is a N rated tyre

Hi,

What are the best tyres to fit on a 991.1 these days for a car under warranty?

Thanks, have p zeros at moment and fancy trying the michelin, do opcs provide these or just p zeros? Where did you get yours fitted?

Just changed from p zero to PS4S on our 2013 991 4S.
New tyres quieter, more wet grip without the terrible tramlining we had with the p zero’s especially when cold.
Definitely recommend the 4S’s over the Pirelli’s.

Just being devil's advocate here; if the PS4S is really significantly better than the PZeros why would Porsche not fit those from new. My new 991.2 had PZeros.

What does the 992 have?

No brainer really, the Pirelli's didn't last long on my 997 Turbo (2 sets as nothing else was suitable at the time of replacement)

After about 7000 mile they were shot on my 991.1 Turbo S and now have fitted Michelin Pilot 4S which are really great. Already passed 6000 miles and still plenty left on them with same pattern of driving, three track days and three to four sprints each year.

I was told that Pirellis were better in wet but I have not noticed any difference but Michelin ride much quieter and feel more connected.

I suspect that Porsche have a deal with Pirelli so that they only Pirelli's at a hefty discount are fitted on all new 911's

I used to be a real Pirelli fan used them exclusively on my previous 997 C4s.
When I purchased my 991 GT3 it was shod with Michelin cup sport 2 tyres & I’m converted. Wear rate and fall off during track use is far less.

if you follow the link below there is a really interesting review between Michelin CS4 / CS4s CS2 tyres.

So the 992 has Michelin PS4S?

I find the wear on pZeros to be alarmingly high. After 2 years and 11k miles I’m already down to 4.5 mm with only half the mileage on summer pZeros. Winter tyres for the other half. I don’t drive
aggressively and I’ve never tracked the car. I’ve driven a lot of big engine Beemers and only got down to 4.5mm at around 20k +.
Think I’ll change to Michelin’s next time!,

I think you might be disappointed if you expect 20000 plus miles out pilot sports
they are ultimate tyres wet or dry
i’ve just had them fitted to my turbo and expect 8-10 thousand miles out of the rears

Thanks all. Sold on trying out Michelins, can someone recommend a good supplier and fitter around North London or but further afield?

Also thoughts on getting tracking and alignment on a new set?

There were pirelli Pzero on my 718s and they were really noisy. My 992 has Goodyear eagles fitted and even on larger rims they are substantially quieter.
Cant say I have approached the limits of the tyres on either car, maybe I should try harder!
What I can say is winter tyres make a huge difference in snow/icy conditions. We live on a hill and had problems in the winter, so I invested in a set of winter wheels and tyres for my wifes mini cooper s. The difference in traction on snow is remarkable.

Struggling to find Michelin PS4S N rated anywhere. OPC has Michelin Cups but they are expensive and more track suited.

Any thoughts on where to try. Also after more research seems Pirelli Pzero N1s are much better than N0s - anyone got experience of those?

Thanks!

Depending on tyre size I might be able to help for fronts. I have pilot sport 4s on the front of my 991 GT3 with only around 600 miles on them & I want to change them for cup sport 2s.
let me know if you’re interested it will take a bit of patience as I will need to source the replacements first

cheers

must say I‘ve always disliked Pirelli tyres - Bridgestone wore well on various 911 but for me Michelin are a cut above However my new 718T has come shod in Pirelli Pzero N1 and I must say begrudgingly that after 2000 miles they seem damn good - wet and dry - having said that I would still choose Michelin
