Hebrides Island Hopping in my Boxster

Just wondering if anyone has been on a trip to the outer Hebrides in their Porsche - I'm planning a trip from Oban to Barra, then South and North Uist, and finally Harris and Lewis, then back to the mainland to Ullapool in May/June next year. I know most of the roads are single track and that fast driving is out of the question and am happy with just cruising around (hopefully with the roof down) and enjoying the scenery and my car.

I'm used to ferries with living on the Isle of Man, but wondering if there is anything else I should be wary of (besides sheep!) in my travels - in particular do any of the ports have particularly steep ramps making boarding and disembarking without grounding difficult?
Thanks,
Gordon

I think you might find the islands a bit frustrating. We did Aran and Mull in a mini...Aran was the better of the two for driving but still has narrow bits and cyclists. Mull has a lot of single track roads...so there is fair bit of reversing into passing places etc, not the best in a Boxster. Last time I was on Harris was by boat...and walking...the roads were nt great but were quiet.

Did it a couple of weeks ago. No problems with ferries, lots of roads are single track but loads of passing places and people are generally very courteous. Scenery is absolutely fantastic so you don't mind just ambling along even though you are in a fast car.
There are some fast roads as well, touched 120 on a few occasions (obviously on a private road ????)
Just go- you will love it.????????

Thanks - good to hear it's pretty much what I am expecting then. I've traveled extensively in the Northern Highlands and don't mind the single track roads so long as the surfaces are OK. I see it as a relaxing trip rather than a blast - but given the opportunity...! If I'm lucky to get a few fine days it will be brilliant in the Boxster cruising around roof down - looking forward to it.

Comprehensive Road Trip illustrated report requested!

Sounds really good.
Easy to reverse a Boxster with the roof down! [:)]

We have been there a few times in a Porsche - we love the isolation and the beautiful scenery.
All the island offer something different and we have island hopped from the Port of Ness on Lewis, to Castle Bay on Barra.
The beaches are superb and the one on Harris (I can’t recall its name now) is one of the best 10 beaches in the world. The beauty is that no one else is there for miles!
WE love the fact that with the roof down you can dawdle along with the roof down and not meet much traffic.
One plus point is that the tarmac is excellent and much better that our motorways of A roads!
Enjoy and get down the side roads too.
