I’ve changed the accessory belt and it’s doing 2 miles more to the gallon, can anyone shed any light?

Welcome to the forum, David. I've moved this to the appropriate area. Over how many miles are you calculating the improvement? Could be a number of factors but unlikely to be related to the belt change!

Honestly, I’ve changed the belt and the tensioner pulley and the mpg has gone up to 25.5 from 23.5. It’s over about 100 miles only. Never had 25.5 out of it before!

Hi

I don't claim to be an expert, but I would think this is simply different fuel consumption on different mixes of road and driving style.

I have a 997 Carrera 4S. Last Thursday I got around 11-12 mpg at the track day at Castle Combe. Driving home the following day up the M4/M5/M42 at around 75-80 mph with occasional slow traffic I got about 28mpg.

I'd regard a 2mpg difference as insignificant.

Thanks everso but I was wondering why a new accessory belt could improve mpg, only thing I can think is that it must have been slipping but it wasn’t squeaking, just a mystery and I wondered if anyone had any ideas?
