My experience of the 992 on a Northern Spain tour.

Having returned from a Northern Spain driving holiday, I am sharing some my experiences of the 992.

I never got tired of driving the car, very comfortable and definately more of a grand tourer than a my previous GTS.s.

It averaged 27mpg for the tour, this was more of touring drive than a spirited one.

Although the Sat Nav system updated itself regularly, there were certain roads not included on the map. Occasionally in towns it navigated narrow streets which preferably, remained on the main roads.

On missing a turning for our hotel, I turned into a narrow cobbled street which had a sharp curve on my LHS, this resulted in a badly damaged front and rear wheels and tyres. Two replacement tyres were fitted, and the wheels skimmed once I returned to the UK.
Luckily, I had taken out the wheel and tyre insurance when I purchased the car.

I dare to say, this occurred on Friday 13th.

The following morning, I noticed a cracked windscreen, I cannot recall any stones hitting the windscreen on the previous day.

The windscreen, has also been replaced under my insurance (£1013) £75 excess.

All of the above events, did not spoil the driving holiday in this superbally all round car.

As a note: When the car was in at the Porsche centre, there is a campaign for replacing a microswitch under the seats which apparently in some cases has caused the seats to recline fully. This was completed the same time.

I also requested the PDK software to be reset, as I felt the gear change was slightly harsh in upshifting. This has now improved.

Ouch Huw, those were big chunks off the tyres.

I also had a great trip round France, Germany, Italy, Austria and Switzerland recently and also ended up with a cracked windscreen in a similar position and shape to yours. Mine yet to be fixed as the replacement was also scratched []

I'm finding the car a real pleasure to drive - both as a tourer, but also a step up from the 991.2 I had in terms of cornering ability when driving in a 'spirited' fashion. Over the Swiss passes it was huge fun.

Hi Peter, was your cracked windscreen result of a chip, I did not feel anything hitting my screen. Initially, it was in the shape of the windscreen wiper curve.

Yes, a stone thrown up made a small chip but a large crack soon developed over a couple of days. Also subsequently got a second stone chip right in the middle of the drivers sight line but as the screen’s a gonner that won’t be repaired.

A salutary reminder that Satnav can assist you but do not be beholden to it!. Glad you were covered! Where in Northern Spain did you tour?

A rather torrid time during the first period with your new car then, Huw. Hopefully things will improve now and you can start to enjoy more trouble-free motoring - there's the Christmas party to look forward to and that should blow away some winter blues. [:)]

The talk about damaged windscreens reminded me of the day I picked up a new 911 Turbo from the Stuttgart factory some time ago. I hadn't driven 500m up the road before a rock hit the screen, putting a giant crack right across my field of vision. [:(]

I did give some thought to turning back to the factory and asking them to replace it, but it was late Friday afternoon, the shift was changing and the likelihood of getting Porsche to halt production in order to replace my windscreen seemed fairly remote. :ROFLMAO:
Regards,

Clive

It was probably worth it though Clive for the excellent after dinner party one upmanship tale????
