Parts delay

That sounds like BS to me. Eurocarparts and others I have checked have them in stock. Which would surely do as a temporary replacement if car is under Porsche warranty and needs genuine parts.

We bought our first Porsche in March. After just 3,500 miles we got an engine warning light. Turns out the air filter needs replacing. Our car has been in the service department Porsche Newcastle for 4 weeks and we have been told it will be anther 4 weeks before the part arrives. Are these delays typical when it comes to Porsche servicing? We have been provided with a Renault hire car which is not a thrilling substitute! Any feedback would be appreciated.

I agree with Geoff. Total nonsense, and completely unacceptable. An air filter is a common service item which should be in stock, a one day wait at the most if out of stock. Surely your Newcastle dealership should be able to scrounge one from another dealer if necessary?

Just a thought but maybe they've broken the air filter housing when removing the filter itself and it's this which is causing the delay? I have to say that an air filter causing a CEL after only 3,500 miles sounds rather odd to me and I'd ask for more information, specifically the actual reason for the delay.

Press for the replacement of your Renault hire car with a Porsche - or financial compensation - if they're talking about a 4-week delay.

Having worked in the industry I cannot believe that it's the air filter element you are waiting for, it is probably a mis-communication to you by the service advisor they may have said it was the air filter rather than explain in detail but if it's to fix the original fault that illuminated the cel it will be a sensor or part of the throttle body or similar, you do occasionally wait weeks for parts with Any manufacturer, however there is the possibility as another poster suggested that whilst investigating the cel issue they MAY have inadvertently damaged the air filter housing which as replacement housings are almost never needed may be in short supply.

If it's a new vehicle it might be worth putting a bit of pressure on the dealer to ask Porsche to take a part from the production line rather than wait for it to come into stock at the parts warehouse

Wow, what a great response, thanks guys. We had sent off a letter of complaint yesterday to Porsche but we felt a bit isolated and unsure of what we could do. We felt that Porsche were not on our side and the whole ownership experience was beginning to sour. We will be pressing for a much faster resolution now we have had your feedback as we would love to extend our ownership beyond the warranty period as they are great cars. Thanks again.

You now have a choice in the North East: Porsche Centre Teesside, Wellington Court, Concorde Way, Preston Farm Business Park, Stockton-on-Tees TS18 3TA.

I have used Teesside for my 718, for a couple of niggles (under warranty) and the first service, they have been very good throughout And I know they are well thought of too.

Here's the outcome: Upon receiving our letter of complaint Porsche Customer Services contacted Enterprise car hire and organised a BMW

320 M sport for us to collect today. Thumbs up to Porsche for doing this it's not our car but we can live with this until the blessed air filter is fitted. Thanks to all who contributed their thoughts it is much appreciated.

Ok result so far, but you cannot be getting the full story. I do not think the air filter can generate a fault on its own and, as stated above, they are readily available. Sounds more like a sensor issue to me. Please let us know when you find out.

Hi John, nobody believes this story. I will get an invoice for the warranty repair and all should be revealed. It must be different to what we are being told . I will take it up with the service team, all we want is to know what is really wrong with our car.
