Hi
Having owned my 944 Turbo for over 10 years, I was considering time for a change, selling and getting into an 80's 911 or a 90's 964, but I love my 944 T and have decided to do some sympathetic updates to it for then next ten years of ownership. Purists may dislike my plan but I thought I'd run it past you all for a POV. Here goes, and worth noting my car is black, original paint with Cup 3 wheels.

Wheels
Option A
Magnus Waker Forged 2pc Outlaw 001
https://fifteen52.com/products/forged-2pc-outlaw-001?variant=4170701569
www.paul-stephens.com is the UK stockist for which I am waiting on a quote from them. Believe it to be £900 a wheel, something like that.
or
Option B
https://www.stuttgart-classica.co.uk/new-parts/braid?category=Wheels+%26amp%3B+Tyres
Stance wise I would like to lower the car a fraction, tiny amount just to refresh the stance.

Body work
Two panels warrant painting and some body work repair. Drivers side rear passenger rear quarter and Front bonnet.
In light of the drivers side rear passenger rear quarter, I would like to get your POV on doing this approach to a 944

https://www.stuttgart-classica.co.uk/new-parts/side-oil-fill-kit?category=Singer+Style

Dashboard
Then regarding the dashboard, I was thinking of making it feel more premium, yet still sympathetic to its original vibe by getting it wrapped with leather with a black or dark grey stitch using...
https://car-bone.pl/shop/dashboard-restoration/

I saw it on this link at 1min 55 secs in...
https://youtu.be/isbKOJLf1Uw

...and it looked really nice.

My inspiration is somewhat based on the Cayman GT4 interior
https://engagesportmode.files.wordpress.com/2015/02/2015-porsche-cayman-gt4-interior-005.jpg

not stitch wise, as I’d probably go with a black stitch or near black stitch. More so the mix of materials

In addition to the leather dash
Under side of dash in Alcantera (though as the 944 dash underside is not very deep, unsure if this would work)
Pillars in Alcantera
Roof lining in Alcantera
And something sympathetic with the door cars, like the 968 cards, going to discuss with Dave The Trimmer

I’m not looking for the brash show off look, more the classy yet slightly outlawed look.

Center console tunnel sides.
Perhaps coachwork that to be in leather, but keeping it sympathetic and original feeling. I think the 968 had leather sides to the console tunnel.

Gear knob and knob cover
This sort of thing
https://www.suncoastparts.com/mm5/graphics/00000002/981%20991%20aluminum%20shift%20knob%20porsche%20gt4%20spyder.jpg

Or wooden knob
https://i.pinimg.com/originals/6c/e1/c9/6ce1c95ce4c5995013a8a889b898eb97.jpg

With Alcantera gear knob boot.

Drivers seat
could warrant some small preventive care as a small hole is beginning to appear on the bolster of my original black Sports leather seat
That said, I do love these seats...

https://youtu.be/Jxq6ptAleAg?t=21

...but could, as a result, make the rear seats look odd.

Glass and paint correction.
All glass in fine order but the windscreen warrants de-scratching by a Glass Doctor. Topaz in London can do this service along with a level 3-4 paint correction service.

Side louvre windows

https://car-bone.pl/shop/944-louvered-windows/

Engine cowl
I need a replacement of this
https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/jamiedavisporsche.wordpress.com/2015/01/10/engine-cowl-replace-pt1-datatextmce-internal/amp/

the black piece of plastic
https://jamiedavisporsche.files.wordpress.com/2015/01/p1050830.jpg

Unsure on exact part number, but seems it’s available from Porsche still cheaply. Also unsure why that blog post is so long as it shouldn’t be an involved task. What this will solve is that when the car looking lovely, yet between the bonnet and front window, that gap area, is really aged badly.

Steering Wheel
Change to https://momo-uk.co.uk/Momo-tuning-Prototipo-Heritage-steering%20wheel-350mm-leather-silver
though seems everyone gets a Momo..

http://www.nardi-personal.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=235:nd-classic-6061-34-2001&catid=40&Itemid=280&lang=en#prettyPhoto

http://www.nardi-personal.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=104:nd-classic-6061-33-2081&catid=40&Itemid=280&lang=en

Or I do like the fun of this wheel https://hotwheels.momo.com/

Brake callipers
What colour? perhaps stick with black, or a yellow, red is a bit generic now isn’t it, either way the paint has all peeled away and I guess it depends on the wheels, but they need repainting.

Floor Mats
Might need new ones. Any good recomendations?

Rear Wiper delete
I was going to do this, but on reflection not going to pursue this

Red out tail lights
Wrap approach like this
https://youtu.be/sBcWvHedv5k

Radio
I want to replace my Parrot Asteroid Classic with this.
https://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesandservice/classic/genuineparts/producthighlights/navi/

Dials
Going to get them custom altered to look like these
https://car-bone.pl/gauges-restoration/

Outlaw badge
https://car-bone.pl/shop/outlaw-badge/

AC unit
Replace with

https://www.instagram.com/p/BxmmjHqCeCd/
https://www.instagram.com/p/BtLauK5ARug/

I think thats it!
Let me know if you feel I am being mad or sympathetic and if its a good idea or not, what parts you like or disagree with.
Very much appreciate your feecback.
Best regards
Julian

:) i'll take that as you don't like any of the plan. Is it that chavvy though? I was trying to not be brash and ostentatious. but hey I appreciate your reply - perhaps it is a chavvy plan. hmmmmmm

Hi mate,

in all honesty there are a few things I wouldn’t do such as the dials and painting it yellow! But at the end of the day , it’s your car and really up to you what you wish to do with it........I’m sure it’s not going to look like a cheap job as the things you are looking at are going to add up to a small fortune!

just becuase others like myself like to keep things Porsche and mostly original doesn’t mean what your likes are have to be changed, the good thing is you have one of the cars we have and love and at least your obviously enjoying it and keeping another of our cars on the road.

I like things to look classy and not too in your face unless it’s a a real aggressive looking car then I don’t mind it being in your face but still like my cars to be classy but that’s just me. I was never one to dell any of my cars back in the day, and my first car when I was only 17 which I saved and bought myself was in fact a 944 lux which I still own aswell as my turbo so I like to think I had a bit of class back then ??

Do what makes you happy mate ??

Hi
Thanks for your reply. Ah to be clear, I am keeping it black paint as original (and want to do paint correction rather than a respray, as I find resprayed old cars look a bit odd, and want to keep as much original paint on it), it is the brake calipers I might colour yellow, or perhaps stick with how they are currently, black too....just that the caliper paint has flacked off quite a bit since 1986.
Thanks again for your reply
Best regards
Julian

Well I’m totally with you on the yellow callipers , that would look great! And really change the look of your car.

i have recently redone my callipers, (labour of love that was) mine came with the black brembo my car is red and the calibers paint wasn’t great so I changed them to Porsche caliber red which would have been the option I would have gone for , and it’s totally transformed the look of the car.
Where as you didn’t even notice them in black but now there red they look really good and all the hard work was well worth it.

on a black car even though it’s not the colour that was an option back then , it would look very nice and would be different which is something I forgot to mension is what I like to be also..... hence buying myself a 944 when my father was crazy mad at me for spending all that money ( it was my hard earned not anyone else’s ????) Car gave me loads of problems but it also gave me freedom and a buzz like no other back then , and it did becuase I got what I’d always wanted , which is kinda what my advice is here.

If i had another 944 I’ve always wondered what colour I’d have it? My other 944 is in alpine white and I love it that colour espeacially with my cream leather I had in it, but after watching that you tube link you put up on here , I would deffinately consider getting one resprayed that grey colour with that white Porsche decor on the bottom. I like that allot

Red calipers tried and tested, would stick to that.

Also the centre console was a factory option trimmed in leather. As indeed was the door cards, headliner, seat backs and other things. Still regret passing up a burgundy leather console on Ebay years ago for £70.

I'm not a fan of making things non-factory that can be seen. If it was an option then fine. But each to their own.

However I'm all for engine and performance upgrades that do not affect appearance such as chips, maf, wastegate, suspension etc. even exhaust as long as you keep the factory tail pipe look....

Good luck and enjoy

Stuart

I've looked for a Janspeed oval exhaust for years, I'll flog the mint Dansk one that's in the shed if I find one.

Like most of it - might go with yellow calipers on a black car, just to be different from the red ones running around - I had red calipers on my car back in 2002 there are a few with yellow but not that many - some have updated brakes to boxster /996 monoblocs and updated the ABS which would be neat.
I would be careful with the gear lever I tried a different set up that did away with the rubber 'liner' to the lever it was awful! kept it on for about 10 mins and went back to the standard one - buzzed and rattled really badly and that was with a linkage that had been refurbed recently. No reason why an aftermarket knob could not be done with the standard style of mounting but I have never seen one.
While the 1/4 window grills look cool not sure I could live with them.

Would love to shrink the door / bonnet panel gaps down but it would be loads of work for very little gain seen similar done on one of the US customising shows. Not so much of an issue on a black car anyway as they don't really show

Tony

Don't miss my rear wiper at all - maybe if it had wash - good coating of rain x or similar works just as well. Could be a pain on cold wet mornings but I just got in the habit of reverse parking, soon clears once you are moving. Frees up a power supply at the back - I had planned to install a tank in the rear for an Intercooler sprayer using the redundant wiper switch and supply. but could be used for other uses - loud / quiet pipe or anything else electrical.

Thanks Tony that is sound advice. very much appredciated.

or the dark grey. The dark grey against the black 911 in the foreground does look good, though I am yet to have confirmation on what finishes they do, I think it is now all black, silver/black or gold as options

Style wise they look good on his 924 ....albeit the gold ones, but style wise I like them....

Thanks again

I have red calipers on my black car, did them last year along with crossdrilled discs, new pads wear sensors etc.
Don' t get hung up about original paint, most of mine has had paint at one time or another, mine is also black.
Wiper was deleted ages ago and not a mis though the car hardly see's the rain.
your car your choice.

Like them but not completely convinced they suit the 944 (too retro for me maybe) - depends how much dish you can fit too - Do singer sell their wheels without the car attached? I did like the white Fuchs on Eddie's old white car though - so they can work.

Your money - your choice though and very unlikely to park next to another with the same wheels!

Tony

Thanks again!
I believe Singer have a bespoke Fuch model they have developed which is not for sale as a standalone wheel. From watching videos on Singer, apparently it was the wheel itself that started the chain reaction of them setting up their business.
Id say they are less retro than a Fuch as Magnus Walkers intent was to make a modern day Fuch. I'm going to photoshop the wheels on a few pics first before I decide!
Cheers
Julian

My opinion on Nash Hunter aka RetroRestorer wouldn’t get through the swear filter.

I’ve seen enough horror stories from his work that I couldn’t allow someone to go there in good faith.

Thank you. I did hear back from them and then after I replied back it all went quiet. I am currently undecided between Stuttgart Classics and RPM Technik, and Dave The Trimmer.
Thanks again
Julian

Dont fit 18 inch wheels they will ruin the ride and handling. Other will tel your they're fine but in reality these cars go best on 16 in wheels.17's are ok and I have a set of Cup 1's on my S2 but you have to change the castor mounts to the 968 items as the 944/951 ones are not up to the job. Also if your looking for a better stance fit 968CS springs and anti roll bars and better shocks along with poly bushes. I have that set up on my car with purple poly bushes as they are softer for road use and the car rides handles and sits well.

I would also buy a club sport steering wheel as these feel and look the best. And I deleted the rear wiper and I've never missed it as the water runs off it when you are moving .

Tried every 18" wheel/tyre/suspension/geo setup available have you. Or just parroting something you read on the internet?
