All,
Just to inform you that I have resigned from 991 Secretary as of immediate effect but will continue to be involved with 991 tours

Kenny
Sorry to hear that & I know I've only spoken to you a couple of times but thanks from me for all that you've done.

Sorry to hear that Kenny
hope you’re ok
loved spending time with you on the dolomites tour
and really looking forward to seeing you on next summers tour
love from linda too x

Sorry to read this, hoping everything is OK, thank you for all the fantastic work you have put in organising the 911 tours, hope to catch up with you in the near future.

Thank you to everyone who have wrote your kind words.
I‘ll never let you down with our Euro Tours so don’t be worried about this.
I have resigned because of Health (small part) but the letdown from the "Top Brass” downwards. I will always put members first as PCGB don’t. No support from HQ & no understanding that we (RS & RO’s) are volunteers & need assistance from time to time.
Keep an eye on the forum for future tours.

Sorry to hear about your resignation Kenny. I hope that you are okay and look forward to catching up with you at another event soon.

If you're referring to financial support, then the Club has always has been ambivalent towards Registers, preferring events to be promoted by the Regions, with Registers adopting more of a referral/advisory role.

I believe it was GaryW on this forum who really started the ball rolling with an active events Register and I was privileged to continue this later on.

During this purple patch, 997 Register organised around 4 -5 events per annum introducing factory tours, driving tours, drive and dine events, parties, exhibitions, shows, Christmas markets, technical meetings etc. - not to mention adventures in Southern France, 6 European countries and tour of Norway. Obviously these proved very attractive to members owning similar models and I can't remember an event that wasn't oversubscribed. [:)]

But these were all self-financing. The Club provided no monetary support whatsoever. At every officials' meeting I attended, I suggested active Registers should receive a reasonable budget, similar to those for the Regions, but my pleas fell on stony ground! [:(] Organising events is expensive and a drain on personal resources, particularly when there are several promoted throughout the year. There is really no incentive for RS's to do anything much at all.

IMHO, Registers are an extremely valuable structure within our Club, bringing together members of similar mind and interest. More support should come from the hierarchy. Members from all over the country come together and Judith and I have thoroughly enjoyed their company and made many life-long friends over the years in all parts of the UK, simply from these Register activities. This surely is what our Club's membership is all about. [:)]

Regions play their part of course, but by their nature have to cover a broader band of members' interests and events are usually a little less focused.

Maybe HQ need to take another look at this. [8|]

Regards,

Clive

Totally agree with Clive - the Registers are important for the obvious reason that they concentrate on a model and not geography. The interests of a 991 owner are often different to that of a 912 owner, for example. I have been on many driving tours with Register members and part of the fun is having like minded owners in cars of a similar performance enjoying a shared experience. They have a very different flavour to the Region tours that I have been on, not that they are not enjoyable too. Both take time, money and resources to organise, as do appearances at major Shows and Events, but the Registers do not have a budget per se.

You make some valuable points Clive but I am not sure I fully agree with them all. As a Regional Organiser I am expected to manage and always try to surpass our regional members' expectations year on year, along with all the other items we cover monthly such as write ups, social media, website and meetings. This is not done by throwing money at them, this is simply done by constantly working to find interesting and diverse events that I hope our members will want to attend or got involved with.

This year so far we have organised two WOTYs, one to the Lakes and in a matter of days a further one to drive the North Coast 500, as well as a Stuttgart factory tour later in the year. Both of our WOTYs were kindly organised by key members and neither of them or our factory tour are funded in any way by the Club but self-funded by all our Regional members.

We have also just held our annual Regional show at Witton Castle where, as Maurice will testify, we invited members from the 993 Register, along with others to join us for the day, in the RO/RS Section on the forum. I had hoped to get more Registers involved in an effort to create a better show for all our respective members to enjoy. Our show only cost us £150 for concours trophies, plus the cost of disabled portaloo hire, so we're hardly spending big in the Region.

I appreciate our show is probably not a great example for most of you, being so far North, but I see no reason why other Regions wouldn’t assist you guys in the same way.
Maybe even a register WOTY could be built around some of these events, this year alone we have welcomed R6, R22, R7, and shortly R18 to join us in our Region. I certainly would be more than happy to assist any Register that may also like to visit the North East and share information regarding hotels and drives in the future, don't hesitate to get in touch if I can help.

Apologies Kenny we appear to have unintentionally hijacked your thread which is extremely unfair.
I would like to thank you for your contribution as 991 RS and look forward to just enjoying a beer or two with you next time we get the chance.
Sadly it's a shame you felt it was time to step down although I fully understand your reasoning behind it.

Greg.

Thanks for your hard work in the past Kenny, and of course the trips.

take care, all the best Mike and Sara
