ignition troubles

I've started having problems starting the engine of my 997. I used to be able to push the clutch in, turn the key and the engine would start straight away. Now, I have to hold the key over to the right for up to 5 seconds before it starts up.

Do I need a new battery? Is it a faulty ignition switch? Any other ideas?

When you turn the key do you hear anything (tick tick tick etc) what battery do you have and how old is it?
when it finally does fire up is it slow or just as fast as usual?

No, I'm not hearing anything. It's a Bosch battery that I've had for about 2 years now.

When it fires up, it's as fast as it normally is.

I too have an ignition switch problem. From about 8000 miles I have to turn the key several times before the power goes to the starter motor, Some times it works first time but usually needs three or four attempts. This weekend for the first time I had a warning on the instrument cluster "ignition switch fault visit your dealer now" my 997 turbo cab has covered 31008 miles. The ignition switch on my previous 996 also failed.

Any ideas on how to change the switch would be appreciated. Porsche dealer made a mess of the dash on my 996 by breaking several of the plastic retainer clips.

It wouldn't be the micro switch on the clutch pedal would it ? I'm having a similar issue with my 997 saying "depress clutch fully" and no start.
If you hold the key in the start position for around 20 seconds it overides this feature and the car starts.
I need to change the micro switch, cheap part, but its a pain to get to.
