Taken the plunge!!

Hi
Took the plunge and bought a 997 yesterday. Took a very steady drive back home (approx. 40 miles). No issues, but oil level has definitely dropped from when it was on the sellers drive. I left until this morning and on a quarter as opposed to 3 quarters yesterday. No oil leaks and clean as a whistle in the engine bay. As it was only used occasionally by the seller, I think it needed a good run and cool down to find its' true level? My question is should I top it with a litre of decent oil, or am I risking over-filling?>
Level check on cold engine, level ground.

I would top the oil level up and then monitor it carefully to establish how much the engine is using.

Do not add a litre in one go, each graduation on the scale is about 0.2 of a litre so top up in small amounts, leave it to settle and then recheck and add more if necessary.

I hope you enjoy your new purchase.

Welcome to 997 ownership the best model out there ………...my view

On mine before start up 5 secs countdown and the oil level is checked for you ,if everything ok go for your drive ,on return the reading takes a little longer but the reading will lower if you leave it overnight and then check it should be normal . if not is using oil somewhere

Thanks. I've been looking for one for a while. I've been doing the checks but no change. Cap it off the oil cap stuck fast. It is very warm today so will leave it until later. Heard a leather glove is worth a shot.

Welcome to new ownership! The oil tube and cap are flexible so better to pull it up and remove that way. Oil levels seem to be erratic sometimes so go for a decent run, leave it as per the indica and check a few times...
