BOXSTER - PCM 3.0 NO SOUND

I have a 2011 Porsche Boxster 987.2 with a Porsche PCM 3.0 fitted.

In the last two weeks the sound from the system has been intermittent and now there is no sound coming from the unit what so ever. The unit functions as normal, less the sound! I did turn it on the other day with the engine not running and sound was normal as soon as I started the engine, no sound?

My Porsche Specialists ran some tests and it identified a MOST optical fibre fault, occurrence was high – 50, suggesting this may be the cause. They are not car audio specialists and recommended a company near Bath, but they are not taking on repairs and do not fit radios!

I am not precious about retaining the PCM 3.0 in the car and would be happy to fit a third-party head unit from someone like Pioneer if there was a custom surround to fit the Porsche Boxster.

Any help or advice gratefully received!

I assume you have a BOSE system. That has an amplifier. The connection between The pcm unit and the "peripherals” (amp, phone module if you have it, cd changer (again if fitted ) is via a fibre optic loop system known as MOST

I would look at the amp (it’s in the frunk) there is a fan on it that will tell you it’s powered properly. Check the connections. There is apparently a fuse inside but If it works occasionally it’s probably not that.

Swapping head unit isn’t that hard (but if you have Bose it’s not that cheap ) and if the amp is the issue then you have to deal with that anyway.

I think the Indy could go further. Just saying "MOST”’error is like saying "wire loose”. With a small loop plug (from amazon ) they could at least check the errors if they looped out the various parts.

My advice. Try another specialist if you Can. I suspect that if you find someone with a piwis diags system you may find there is more data to be had on what is actually failing.

Similar 'No sound' fault with my 987. Nothing at startup then around 30 to 45 mins sound would miraculously 'appear'. Took the car to Cartronics in Byfleet who diagnosed a duff Bose amp. £1100 later sound on tap.
