Porsche 996 Turbo Service

Hi everyone

New to the club and the forum, and already have a query!

I bought my 996tt about 8 years ago. Since then I have always had it serviced at Porsche Solihull maintaining a full OPE service history. I don't do many miles (500 / 1000 max per annum). However this year (this week) i called Solihull to book it in for a minor service. Luckily i asked how much and was shocked to be told £520!! This for an oil, oil and pollen filters and few ancillaries and the usual inspections. Last year I paid £460.00 for a minor but including a brake fluid change. I challenged the dealer, saying that i was expecting it to be closer to £350 based on the previous years costs (less the brake fluid). The response was it is now fixed price servicing and that was that!!!

I now have a dilemma. I will try another dealer but expect the same response.

So, do I now start to use independent specialist dealers (I used to have a 968 and always used specialist independents)?? Part of me thinks it is time to do so as other work (repairs etc) will also be considerably cheaper. Provided i use a good quality indy i wouldn't expect it to hit the value.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

And can anyone recommend where to take it. I live nr Crowle (Worcester) and (obviously) quality of service and being able to trust the advice i get is really important to me - something i didn't always get with the dealer!!

Lots of people with older cars use independent specialists, it should not affect it's resale value.

Actually, they often know more about the older cars than the official Porsche Centres.

You could try Peter Chambers Automotive in Tewksbury, it is about 18 miles from you:

Hi - I don't know whether you have booked in with Pete yet, but we are a few miles further out in Toddington. We are a Porsche-only specialist.

We look after a number of 996 and 997 Turbos and as well as just servicing we have performed a variety of jobs on these cars from clutches, coolant work, hydraulic work and normal consumable.

If you want to contact me, please use the messaging service - if not enjoy your time with Pete!

Thanks, Lee
