Boxter Turbo Twist wheels can i fit to my 911?

Hi i have a 1998 C2 911 [996], i currently have 17inch cup 3 alloys which i wish to replace with 18inch Turbo TwistsLooks, i realise the size for the correct wheels should be 10j on the rear but i found a set of boxter versions with 9j on the rear far cheaper. Is it worth considering these? or am i compromising ridegripcomfort levels by choosing this version of the wheel? Also re spacing will they look ok in the arch? I believe the correct wheels should be 10J ET65 on the rear but both versions are 7.5 on the front.

Thankyou in advance.

Alex

Try this website first for a definitive answer as to whether the new wheels/tyres will fit.

Ignore the sales blurb for the Japanese wheels and have a play with the "existing"/"new" calculator at the top and watch the results measurements and clearance calculator change. I found it invaluable when buying a set of winter wheels and tyres for my 996. Ended up with a set of 17 inch Cayman alloys and 7mm spacers on the front for a perfect fit.

Good luck..

Thanks, pretty sure they will fit and look ok. Just thinking about the handling with the smaller rears, ideally someone with experience having fitted the boxer versions on their 911?

I would be concerned about the effects on handling. You could find that insurance is invalid on a claim so would that check first.

996:
7.5J x 18, RO50 (or 8J on facelift maodels)
10J x 18, RO65

986:
7.5 J x 18 RO50.0
9J x 18 RO52.0

So the rears will be in the same position on the outer edge, and you will get 1" more clearance on the inner. So they will physically fit OK, but I wouldn't want an inch less rubber on the road.....

Hi gents,
I need some assistance on this matter also please. The numbers have really got to me today so hopefully you can help.
I have just refurbished in gold the solid spoke wheels on my Boxster 986 which are turbo twist with 265 35 18 rubber.
They look really good so I want to move them to my 993 and put the 993 wheels on the Boxster.
I thought the wheels were the same but how wrong was I!
The rear 993 wheels foul the suspension on the 986 and it seems from some googling that the off set is different and maybe the wheel width is different also.
The 993 alloys are hollow spoke (who knew!?) and running on the same rubber 265 35 16.
I cant read the part code properly on the back of the wheel because of the powder coating but interesting the Boxster wheels also have a 993 part code... 993.362.133....
From what I can tell on research the front wheels are the same on both cars.
The rear wheels may have a different offset due to the Boxster being mid engined and so the mechanics are wider hence the wheel being push further out ?

So the basic questions.....
If I put the 993 hollow spoke alloys on the 986 is it just a matter of installing a spacer to push the wheel out and off the suspension ?
If so what is the width of the spacer needed ?
With the 986 solid spoke alloys on the 993 will they just sit out a little further ?

On each car, what will be the effect on handling, etc ? I note above that its mention that there may be less grip but actually the tyres are the same width?

Is there a difference with alloy wheel width or is the difference just the offset location ?

986 fronts seem to be 7.5j18ET50
986 rears I cant get a number off
