Window lifter rail

Hi all
It appears my drivers side lifter rail is finally on its way out. The window is now constantly popping out of the rail as it’s corroded at the bottom and losing its spring to hold the window in.
Has anyone had any experience in this?
I have been looking at parts and the 993 rail is considerably cheaper, I have seen one at £75 where as the 964 one seems to be £300+.
Does anyone know if the 993 one will fit?

Had exactly the same issue @ 8 years ago. Rain and wash water collects within the riser rail and eventually corrodes the life out of it. Window rubbers and outside seals shrink over time and the gaps left are an open path. Common issue lurking.

Stripped my door down completely, including the window frame and felts. Bought a new riser rail (<£100) then took that and all the window frame parts to a powdercoater and had the lot done (glass frames bead blasted first). All looked great.

Reinstalled everything, greased all moving rail parts and scissor riser arms and pivots etc. Then replaced outside rubber seals etc and with some black silicone rubber I sealed up any open gaps. Perfect,

Stuipidly, after a bare metal body resto and repaint I wrote the flippin thing off between Rouen and Alencon on the way to Le Mans a year later :(

Hi mate
shame about the ending.
cant believe how much a new riser rail is now £300 +.
managed to find a second hand one with glass in it for £80.
Hopefully it will be in good condition when I go and pick it up.

Thanks Lee, Was gutted naturally as it appeared on Top Gear and was the Porsche GB publicity car on launch. Anyway, new chapter now.

The riser rail I think set me back @£80 at the time and was OPC order from DE. Might be cheaper to buy on ebay a whole door and strip that down for parts!

found second hand one with glass still in it for £80.

Same thing happened with mine! Got a new rail with rubber sleeve from Type 911 for £162 all in, in case the 2nd hand one isn’t up to scratch!

The door is not designed to be watertight, thats why it has drainage holes in the bottom and a plastic membrane on the inside.
