1987 Guards Red - any original photos with red wheels?

I've got a 1987 3.2 Targa in Guards Red. Whilst polishing the wheels some of the black paint came away to reveal red paint. Were the original wheels red? I've tried googling for original photos of stock 911's to see what colour options you could purchase, does anyone have any pointers?

Colour coded wheels were an option, I would think yours came out of the factory coded and have since been refurbed black

Hi I have a 1987 Targa with white wheels if you have a Certificate of Authenticity it will have at the bottom the Optional Equipment,
These are the items your 1st owner had ordered at extra cost ( it made the car cheaper to purchase and more custom to their tastes )
It will read as Forged Alloy wheels in Gran Prix White ( or your colour) I think it was an extra £250 for this option as the car would have cost £38k ish in 1987 .
hope this helps .
