Its Been a While !!

Hi All
Its been a while since I have been around this forum. My 1987 944 Turbo has been dormant for the last 7 years ! This was due to marital duties and kids which are the downfall of many a 944 ownership. Well Ive gotton the royal okay and I am on the cusp of reawakening a legend.

Why would I not ? The tax is now €56 compared to €1080 last year. I have her 19 years this September !

The battery was goosed so a new one was got - Then the unthinkable.... Where's the keys... ? I have taken off the drivers side doorhandle and left it with a locksmith who is a VW nut (MK2 GTi Golf no less) who will cut me up a suitable key.

I'll get that tomorrow so this will be a big day. A load of work ahead - Tyres are expired - She needs NCT - She needs insurance and a real good clean...!!

Will she start ??

Hi Donal, welcome back! Better take a good hard look at the belts before you try starting the engine....

Good luck & best wishes!

Best of luck!

I'm in a similar situation, trying to get mine back on the road after many years, but hopefully another couple of months and it will be out and about again - it's going to feel really weird driving it again.

Great news guys! 👌🏼

I would personally do belts and drain oil and petrol ,new filters ,new fluids before trying to start.

I am just getting my turbo back after a 3 year layoff due to total engine rebuild and iv still not been able to floor the pedal yet and still feels cer real!

I also i do I also have my first car to resorect, one of these days, been sitting in garage for nearly 18 years I think? 1986 944 lux can’t wait for that day! 😉👍

My thoughts entirely. I have concluded Beaky will need trailering to a specialist for a belt change before doing anything now.

I know what you mean. I do sit in the drivers seat making brum brum noises periodically though.

I've been so busy of late, what with building steam engines and fitting a new kitchen that I haven't had time to drive over the last few weeks, not even washed the poor old girl. Yesterday I needed a 3m length of 4x2 and the wife had taken her car to work so out came the poor dirty old girl, I can't recall ever driving her that dirty? .. but boy did I enjoy that short trip to B&Q... must give her a good clean and get out more.... need to finish the kitchen first, this weekend hope to cut the granite worktops... wish me luck....:)

Pete

About time! :)

There's not much life left on this forum - even less now Oli is joining the mid-engined Porsche fraternity

I haven't seen my car since I shut it in its garage a couple of months ago after a trackday.

I'm driving mine another 250 miles this Sunday, paying a visit to Thruxton for the BTCC, that will be 550 miles in a week

Hi martin , I’d love to come mate, hopefully shouldn’t be doing anything too important, let me know when and what time when you know?

The big days this friday for the car , getting it to Wayne scoffield at chip wizards for live mapping, so fingers crossed all is well🤞🤞🤞 crapping myself if I’m honest as I slightly detonated when I went over 4000rpm by accident last month , that was before fitting a afr and adjusting fuel a bit as it was running megga rich! I have just stripped the head down again as I was paranoid that if the gasket had popped slightly it may cook on the Dyno! So I ordered another from America and have just got it all back together again 🥵

hopefully all will be sorted by Wayne and I can start relaxing and enjoying it again and come to these meets.

it is also over 4 hours drive from my house to chip wizards so it’s a bit worrying times at the minute only as so much money and hard work jas gone into building it. Got RAC cover yesterday so feel bit better.

Let me know day + times ect 👍

Good luck for Friday. I've a similar concern, I've been told I need to run it in for 500 miles before getting it mapped which is going to be hellish, as it's not a mile muncher and the existing mapping isn't that great (because I did it) so it's all a bit sketchy. Not sure who I'm going to use to do it properly, probably Wayne as he has more experience on my type of setup than anyone I guess, but the logistics make it a bit tricky, so am looking a little closer to home.

Thanks mate

How far are you from Wayne (chipwizards)?

Good to hear all these cars returning to the road! I have been tempted to mot my coupe - It uses a lot of oil but given that I only did 300 miles last year in the cab its not going to be that expensive on oil consumption.......

I've got some pics of my engine which explain my oil consumption, not pretty, I'll start a thread when I get a moment so I don't derail this one.

Mines up and running after a quiet 18 months, it is going to get used, I really do believe they like to be used, got the top hose to sort as mine shredded it courtesy of the fans kicking in and catching it, turns out the rubber top retainers for the radiator / fans are missing and not holding the unit in place, 2 in a bag here from OPC.

Welcome back!

Looks like a few of us are dusting the cobwebs off our hibernating 44s [:D]

I've got a restoration thread up on another forum (not sure if I can mention the name here), my car has been off the road since 2014 when it had some body surgery and then a full glass-out respray.

It was meant to be a simple job to just put it back together and get it running but I had a couple of hitches with a very slow bodywork guy and then I got stitched up with a dodgy trader who was meant to be putting it back together but decided to just get rich off me without actually doing any work. Eventually I twigged got my car back and so I've been working on it myself and doing (in my opinion) a much better job than I could afford at any garage. Only problem is I get a huge amount of scope creep - so I've reigned control back in and hopefully might get it in for the MOT in June.

That’s excelent news mate! 👍

put some pics up if you ever have time, id love to see them and I’m sure others too!

im in process of getting my turbo back in hopefully tuned health, so I’m just waiting for a phone call any day from now and I’m hoping to be able to enjoy mine this summer ,which will make a change to the last coming on 4 years withought it!

atb

Daniel 😉
