981 Spyder seats

Are the seats on a 981 spyder interchangeable? Can I replace my folding bucket seats with 18 way comfort or 987 comfort seats and will they fit and the electrics work? Just for a long road trip. 987 seats are cheap and comfortable but not sure if they will fit and the electrics work?

An interesting question Paul.

With your folding buckets, I wouldn't have thought that the necessary electrics would be in place even for a basic seat with electric backrest adjustment and manual fore/aft and height adjustment let alone an 18-way seat.

I'm sure it's achievable, but a lot of faffing would be required with additional wiring looms, etc.

Changing any current porsche seats is an expensive nightmare
i changed to sports seats on my 993,but anything more recent suggested has always caused big drawing of breath and £££££signs from porsche garages!!!

sell it buy a GTS, you don't like the ride in the car as it stands, it just sound like totally the wrong car to have bought.

Hi Bispal,

Yes can be done - fairly easily, just depends whats already in your car.
I have a set of black 14 way sports seats I was intending to put in my 987.2 (which I have just sold).
These seats were initially configured to work in a full memory setup, however have converted them to work fully with just a basic power & ground loom connection - so now will work in all 987 & 981.
Happy to explain in more detail (if you are still thinking about it).

Thanks
Andrew

Well I took the seats out and tried to put some spacers under the front to recline the back a little, but that didn't work as the front bolts would not go back in (wrong angle).

So I bought some upholstery foam and took the seat cushions out. They are only Velcroed in so come out very easily, need to be careful though if the seats are heated so you don't break the cables.

Once the cushions were out I cut some foam and filled in the seat base and back. This makes the seat a little comfier for long trips but more importantly reduces the 'bucket' effect by 25mm and this makes all the difference. I can now wriggle about and get comfortable and depending where you put the foam you can reduce the upright nature of the seat.

I have no idea why Porsche don't make adjustable bucket seats. Its a massive oversight going from a slab comfort seat to a full bucket with no in between. My old Audi RS4 wingbacks were supremely comfortable as were the standard McLaren sports seats in my 12C, even the old 993/996/997 sports seats were comfy, good looking and held you in place.

Cheers everyone.
