SOUTH YORKSHIRE MATTERS

The new South Yorkshire Club Night at The Red Lion, Todwick, in April, got the club night off to a tremendous start with 33 Porsches in the car park and around 55 people in attendance, many of whom had not attended a club night before. It was great to talk with members old and new. There was a really friendly air of enthusiasm and appreciation that there is now a club night serving members in the area. Such were the numbers that we were immediately offered use of the function room where we met on 8th May. There were fewer present but given the awful weather and celebrations for Sheffield United gaining promotion to the Premier League it wasn’t surprising. The function room was met with approval and everyone appeared to enjoy the evening with plenty of friendly chat and banter. Meetings will take place on the second Wednesday of each** month starting ‘officially’ at 8pm but in reality as soon as 2 or more members arrive. I’m pleased to report that several South Yorkshire members including, Adam & Karen Carey, John*& Karen Elliott and Pete Jones have committed to lead future club nights and ensure that at least one of them will be present each month and make members welcome - thank you. *John is a member of the R7 Coordinators Group (CoG) and I’ve no doubt he will be a fine representative for South Yorkshire members at CoG meetings.

Whilst Region 7 will continue to cover the whole of Yorkshire, it’s natural that there will be a desire from those who attend each of the north, south, east and west club nights and others to occasionally organise some things locally, for example visiting The Hope Motor Show, arranged by Sheffield & Hallamshire Motor Club on 24th June from 6pm, possible weekday meet and lunch drives and the like. To facilitate that and give members in the area more of a voice, I’ve created this forum topic ‘South Yorkshire Matters’ where members can add events, propose ideas, suggest meet ups etc. and communicate with others in the area in one place. Of course for non-local matters and events members should use the forum as previously.

NEWs; **Arrangements are being made with JCT for a club night to be hosted by the Porsche Centre, Sheffield, similar to that held at Porsche Leeds each May. This is likely to be in September or October and once a firm date has been agreed details will be posted on the forum.

Something that members who are not attending the Silverstone Classic on Saturday 27th July may enjoy is a cross country drive to one of my favourite events of the year, the VSCC Formula Vintage motor race meeting at delightful Cadwell Park in the Lincolnshire Wolds. We will meet up with friends from R4 Lincolnshire & Humberside, parking at the top of the hill in the Gooseneck viewing area from 10.00am. Turn right after passing through ticket control. Advance tickets are £17 from MSV but will be more expensive if bought at the gate.

This is an informal gathering to enjoy the company of like minded people, the racing which is usually close and exciting, at close quarters and the amazing historic cars racing, in the paddock and in the car parks. Viewing is excellent as are the facilities. Food available at the clubhouse which overlooks the track is very good.

An R4 tradition is that Sylvia, the wife of the R.O. Rod Stormes brings some of her delicious cake to share. May I suggest that if there is a baker in your house that you also bring a cake to share and we can have a ‘Cadwell cake corner’.

Whilst I would like to know who is going, there’s is no need to commit yourself, you are welcome to simply turn up. For members who would like to meet up and drive together, I suggest meeting in the car park of The Red Lion, Todwick at 8am for an 8.15am start. We should arrive at Cadwell by 10.00am after a pleasant drive. North Lincolnshire is not flat! The circuit is like a mini Nurburgring.

Karen and I will be unable to attend the next South Yorkshire club night as all being well will be in Le Mans for the 24hr.

New event - Visit to Porsche Sheffield Saturday 8th June.

Please see the post by John Elliot on the R7 Forum for details.
