2017 Porsche Macan Purchase (non-conventional)

Please excuse the duplicate if you also subscribe to macanforums.co.uk:

This is my not so conventional way into Macan ownership. I decided to sell my 2003 996 C4S and replace it with a Macan.

As you can hopefully see, if the image shows, my Macan is not immediately ready to go on the road as it is a Cat N (non-structural damage) write-off.

You may think this is crazy but it works for me. I paid around half the market value for an undamaged car although obviously I need to factor in cost to repair which I intend to do mostly myself. I get a car that is 14 years younger and it will comfortably seat four which is something that could never be said of the 996 and one of the reasons I was only doing around 3000 miles a year.

I’m not a mechanic but I have repaired a Cat D Boxster with front end damage a few years back. On my 996 I did a few jobs myself including fitting new air conditioning condensers and retrofitting cruise control by fitting new stalks. That involved removing the steering wheel airbag, steering wheel, original stalks and gauge cluster as well as wiring in a new small loom to the fuse box so hopefully was good preparation for tackling some of the challenges I will come across on this car.

If you wish to follow my repair as I work through what needs to be done you can find the first instalment here: https://youtu.be/yLt3sskHx1w

The main parts I have not sourced yet are one rear seat belt, both head airbags and (just!) everything in front of the chassis legs including crash bar, radiators, condensers and bumper. I know many of the parts are available on ebay but I was hoping to get most together which would mean they came with all the nuts and screws and save me the time and expense of sourcing them separately.
I have missed out on 2 cars with burn damage that would have been great for supplying front end parts so if you know of someone who has parts that I am missing then please let me know. The first car I missed out on was just 12 chassis numbers different to mine and also a diesel S so would have been ideal. The other one was on Copart but as that was just over a week ago there is still a chance I will see its parts appear on the market. It was a white Macan and although labelled as a 2016 did look to be a 2017 model if the VIN shown in the picture was correct, so if you know who is parting that out please let me know. I see another one, lot 32716079, on Copart at Rochford (does someone in London set out to torch Macans?), so with a bit of luck I may be able to get someone to bid on that for me (ideally someone who just needs an engine!).

Theoretically my car has the balance of Porsche Warranty but if I was going to worry about whether Porsche would honour that I would not have purchased the car.

i presume you intend keeping it for a long time

Yes, but quite much of that time is after it is back on the road I am not yet sure!
