Which new tyres - Pirelli or Michelin ?

Due to age rather than mileage I need to change all 4 tyres on my 1984 3.2 Carrera convertible.

i believe the originals were Pirellis which have been quoted at £720 for a set of 4 Pirelli N4 to include fitting and VAT.

However, I have also been quoted for Michelin N rated tyres for Porsche, which are £478 for a set of 4.

This is is quite a difference, but my 3.2 is a very low mileage and original car and I am unsure if the possible saving for the non original tyres would make a difference to the handling of the car or it’s future value.

I would be be grateful for your thoughts and experiences with Michelin tyres.

Which sizes/diameters are you looking at?
Bridgestone and Continental are tried and trusted alternatives and should be cheaper than both Michelin and Pirelli (at least in 16")

Hello Tony, Over the last 12 years I've had a set of Continentals and now we are on a second set of Michelin. Both makes of tyre have been good on our '89 car but I like the Michelin slightly more. I'm likely to replace the current set with them again next year. I haven't tried Pirelli so cannot comment on them, the Club scheme gives you cash back but not enough to bring your quotes in line! You are choosing from quality manufacturers, tyres are consumables after all and not detrimental to a vehicles valuation when fitting top brands. Steve

Thanks for the replies. I am looking for: -

Front - 205/55 ZR 16
Rear - 225/50 ZR 16

I've never been a fan of Pirelli tyres, particularly on a low use car. Too many times I have seen them dry rot or develop cupped tread before the tread wore out.
