987 Purchase - missing Sport Chrono Plus

Hi everyone,

very excited to be purchasing my first Porsche (Boxster S, 2007 987.1).

Bit of an odd question - I've run the VIN through a decoder, the spec matches exactly apart from:
- 640 Sport Chrono Plus package

There is no sport button and no clock, the centre console just has the spoiler & traction control buttons. Any reason this might happen? Do Porsche sometimes forget to fit something in the factory?

Also - the previous owner has replaced the original Sat-Nav with a Kenwood system, if I buy an original system is it just plug and play?

Many thanks for any help..

If it had sport chrono it would have a clock on top of the dash not sure why the code 640 shows up.
Regards Sat nav unit just depends if the plugs / wires have been altered for the kenwood.

not fully true as a lot of cars just have the software added as it's also a tech equipment after fit.

David,

As D has said, I believe that it's available as a software upgrade but without the dashboard clock. However, you say there's no sport button and so no way of activating it, so there must have been a documentation glitch.

The full Vehicle Identification (including all the optional equipment codes?) should be contained in the Guarantee and Maintenance booklet.

Yeah as Jeff said no sport button to activate so pretty clear without both .
No chrono.
Any after fit things wouldn't show up in original spec either.

Thanks for all the help, I haven't got the car yet but wanted to make sure everything was right before picking-up.

Is anyone able to run the VIN for me and see if they get the same spec? Or is it best to contact a Porsche dealer (even though it's not coming from a main Porsche dealer).

David,

The seller should be able to tell you from the documentation which Porsche Centre supplied the car and you could try contacting them to get the original spec, although any Porsche Centre should be able to give you the information if you can persuade them to spend the time looking. If a Sport Chrono s/w upgrade was performed I would think that this should also be on the system.

Jeff

Thanks for everyones help. I spoke to Porsche customer service but they said they aren't able to give any details of the vehicle until I'm the registered keeper, they confirmed that's true for all dealers as well..

A kind dealership ran the VIN and their system didn't show the Chrono system at all. Sorry for the false alarm, the VIN decoder I used got every bit of spec right except that!

Thanks for all your help and now I can go back to looking forward to the arrival!

Congrats on the car. I really miss my old RS60. Fabulous fun car. Mine had PCM and Bose which i had replaced and then returned to normal when I sold it to a great gentleman on here. IMO the original PCM is really dated and a pain to use, so it may be best to keep the Kenwood and save your money.

Seeing this I would say all of the advise given is good, a sport mode button and chip upgrade can be fitted without the clock, the main function of which is to fill a blank bit of dash top. Some non-franchised specialists also do a chip upgrade without button but this means it is on all of the time, it can be nice to have a bit less response or rather the normal level rather than the touch and go. But we get used to whatever is underfoot.
