Engine cover refusing to open and close

I have just returned from a major service of my 7.1 GT3 at a Porsche Centre and found the engine cover open. To be honest, I was rather disappointed with the centre as it was known that there was a problem, but there was no diagnosis. Having pulled the cable, I was able to shut it, but then it would not open. A helpful Youtube video enabled me to get the cable through the rear tail light and thereafter effect entry. The switch in the sill of the driver's side appears to be working properly with appropriate noises, but the engine cover fails to open. I would be grateful for any advice as the where the problem lies and any solution.
Thanks in anticipation.
