Rear suspension not level

Hi

My car isnt sitting level at the rear. After making tyre pressures even on level ground and measuring height to wheel arch on side is 66cm, one 64 cm. Engine mounts also look original. Could this be engine mounts or do you think springs? Both look bit tired!

Have you had rear of car up on stands and checked springs for any signs? Would be the first place I'd look.

Not yet, will see if i can get it up on my ramp tomorrow. I guess i can compare sides. Anything particular to look for?

Yes, as ras says, there are proper reference points to measure from/to. You may actually find that both sides are actually within tolerance of each other.

A visual of the springs for sure for any sign of damage/issues and their seating location. Do you know any history of past suspension work?

The picture looks like it has an adjuster on the bottom of the spring. That's how you get the ride height set. If the car has done more than 70k then the suspension will need a refresh as the standard shocks are past their life. Then there's the rubber bushes in the wishbone that start to delaminate so by the time it's reached 100k you'll need to rebuild it for sure.
If the shocks have been replaced and the springs are OK it could be that the drivers side which probably has the most wear, will need to be adjusted and then the suspension geometry rechecked.

How much are we talking for a suspension refresh & geometry set up?

I am sure new shocks & springs etc would go amiss on my car.

A friend of mine with a 993 ended up spending the thick end of 5 grand, once everything that needed doing was done.

A few years ago I had a total suspension refresh (B6's and HR springs) with new SuperPro bushes all round, new top mounts, brake pads and other smaller misc. renewals. With labour and a custom geo set up (RS +5mm) it came to just over £3k. Would be less if I didn't need new top mounts, pads etc. Very well worth it. Best place to start would be an inspection and assessment of findings and available options with Chris at Centre Gravity, you have nothing to lose...

There are many places where a full geo using the same equipment as C. Franklin will cost you £85 and not £300

Indeed. However, it's not just the kit you pay for. Go to KwikFit and maybe even cheaper still ;) I've had set ups in the past with equally good equip but then I don't get that level of involvement, participation encouragement, advice and recommendations suited only to my needs and all done with enthusiastic passion. Chris works for me anyways and happy to pay that premium for peace of mind.

Been through all of the receipts that came with the car back to 2006 and nothing i can find for dampers or springs so they are at least 12 years old if not original. Some of receipts are in german while car was in zurich so took me a while to google any large part numbers i did find new starter, new headlamp and new distributers that i didnt know about.

Just priced up Bilstein B6 dampers and Eibach springs on design911 and with the spring discount (till end of April) they come to £1,139.77 inc vat and delivery. I havent checked other sites but thought that was pretty good. Even with bump stops and some additional tools you could keep it under £1500 diy I suspect.
