We have a problem with the SATNAV

Car has done 38k bought 2 months ago
On the way back from Knaresborough after about 40 minutes driving the SATNAV suddenly reset itself to the Porsche screen
Been doing ever since

Porsche OPC Chester have had it since Monday and replaced the satnav twice with new unit.
They tested it stationary most of today no problem

On the way back from Chester about 30 minutes later just before it reach Whitchurch it did it again

So something is happening to the power when its being driven. Its not the unit and we cant se anything else re settting
Wonder if its a loose connection somewhere - All fuses checked

Any ideas please. Chester will collect it again next week

Thanks

Hi
It sounds as if you may have to do some donkey work on this problem to sort out the fault.

If you can read off any codes then try this first - although i have found that they dont always register with this type of fault - but if there are any it could steer you in the right direction.

I think I'd possibly be inclined to bench test the pcm - and see if its working OK or not off the car (you will prob find it doesn't have full functionality as it communicates with other modules and wont be happy without them there). If the PCM is definitely OK the you could try back tracing the voltage supplies by leaving a multi meter hooked up to the various supply and ground pins to the pcm - to see if there are any inconsistencies with the vehicle running/driving

I have dealt with issues on the old PCM 2's where they reset themselves when the MOST circuit has problems this can be caused by issues on the fiber optic circuit such as a dodgy amplifier etc. You could try breaking the MOST ring with the PCM/car running to see if this relocates the fault of not.

Thanks

Is it doing it at the same physical location? I had a Carrera that did that whenever I went to Top 555 in Rutland. When I mentioned it to them they realised that they had experienced it as well. I think there are some serious transmissions around there that spike the unit.

Thank you guys
The entire SatNav system has been replaced (is that the PCM)

Still does it. Interesting that the Cigar Lighter is doing it so I guess it would be easy to test the circuit from here

Now Porsche at Tyne and Wear said the Cigar Lighter was faulty and needed replacing so maybe its a simple as that (111 test for 2 year warranty
