993 Targa 17" split rim wheel bolts

I have a C2 Coupe fitted with Targa 17" split rim alloys, and after using Turtle Wax 'Redline' wheel cleaner for the first time - which will never be used again; alloy wheel owners please be aware! - the heads of the rim bolts have all rusted! Its light surface rust only - but I guess that's not the point!

I am considering replacing all 96 (!) rim bolts with Porsche items - but I have been advised by my local OPC that these are no longer available. Is this other Targa owners' understanding?

If they cannot be purchased from Porsche, are there any suggestions as to where they might be obtained? Can they be removed and somehow 'refurbished' (eg media blasting or similar?) without having the alloys refurbished at the same time? I live in the Edinburgh area.

Many thanks, John Dymond

PS : any recommendations as to the best 'rust converter' product to use, as a cheaper yet certainly more tiresome method of removing the rust, as an alternative to new bolts?

The bolts are available from many suppliers, Google is your friend, cost varies but will be about £300 for 96.

FYI I once replaced a set with stainless(cost £90) to prevent rusting and it gave it a nice BBS look.

Also be very careful ref screws and bolts I looked at a car with replacements from OPC about 6 years ago and they were a year old and had started to go rusty which surprised me as I thought they were anodised.
I was recently informed by EXEL that they were never anodised so I would recommend that you at least lacquer once the after refitting replacements and you don't need to split them to do or.to refurbish.

Porsche Stopped selling those many years ago now. Had my Targa nearly 15 years now and when I had my Targa wheels split and refrubished a couple of years ago I ended up hand painting the allen heads and nuts my masking everyone up due to a mis communication with the Body Shop. They had to put 3 steel allen bolts in due to the heads went. Not a surprise after 20 years! Back breaking but looked A1 when done (I'm a bit OCD!)

I heard these are available in motor sports but not sourced any yet so any good source for new that will be strong enough to do the job and gloss black I'm in!

You can tell when others have had rhe wheels refurbished as they all have chrome allan bolts, for me they just look wrong.
