What to buy within my budget?

New to the 997 forum, looking to purchase a 997, I have a budget of £30k which seems to be sat in the middle of the range, not quite enough for a series 2 car but enough for an older car with lower miles. I know I want a coupe and manual, would prefer a 4S, I have seen a few 4S models at £30k with sub 50,000 miles on the clock in dealers but these are older models (2006), is this about the right level in the market place at the moment or should I be aiming for a newer model with higher mileage?

There are a lot to choose from but I would like to purchase sooner rather than spend 3-6 months looking for a perfect combination (whatever that means).

Thanks

@Jase1969,
Nice dilemma. I bought my 1st 997 just over 6 months ago. I originally had an eye on 996 because I had originally a lower budget but ended up with preferred 997.1 Carrera S because I preferred shape and stretched budget to get it.

Mine is nearing 100k mileage (perhaps in a couple of years) and figured that they have plenty of life and with not doing much mileage, it wasn't a big deal to get higher mileage one. With that, it's cheaper and I suppose major repairs would also have been attended to. Additional consideration is running cost, road tax, insurance and tyres would be higher on a 4S that 2S.

If colour is not an issue, there are plenty of black and arctic silver about and usually around March and September a few more on sale I found.

And yes, I am very pleased with car but consider purchasing from Porsche specialist and if not, you could get cheaper from non-specialist and private and would say around £5k difference between the two.

Happy hunting!

Thanks, guess, now is a good time to look. To be honest I would prefer a black car so that shouldn't be too much of an issue and it won't be a daily.

Cheers
Jason

There's a nice looking black 997.1 2s at RSJ for £28k (59k miles) - in manual, which would be my preferred option. I've bought two cars from them now and their standard is excellent. The second car I bought I actually bought over the phone. I trust their strict buying inspections and their warranty isn't bad either. They also welcome inspections, so it might be worth getting the bores checked out before any purchase. The only problem is they're not overly keen on test drives unless you're serious about buying.

Thanks for the information, just purchased a 4S, will post pics as soon as I pick it up. Bought from a reputable dealer with a bumper to bumper warranty. Looking forward to it.

Thinking of switching from a 987.1 Boxster S to 997.1 S after a year happy motoring. I had set out to get a 911, but got distracted with the 987 prices... Anyway I'm now homing in on a 997.1's, I've seen a few lower priced ones with engine rebuilds around £22K with around 60K miles - I'm assuming that's bore score related. Good bet? Or should I look for a higher mileage .1 for mid twenty's. Or jump to the 997.2's?

If it was rebuilt by Hartech I'd jump at the chance. Rebuilds can be done well or poorly. I'd trust a Hartech rebuild completely. It would help any resale value in the future too.
