Volkswagen became part owners of Porsche in 2008 when it purchased 49.9% of the stock following an abortive attempt by Porsche to buy up Volkswagen, racking up more than €10bn in debts, but falling short of the 75% of shares targeted. So you could say that VW were part owners during the 997 years (2004 - 2012)

VW completed the purchase of the controlling shares in the Company in 2012 - the 991 first made its appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2011.

So it's not an entirely straight forward answer to your question, but hopefully it helps. [8|] []

This is kind of true, however, 52 Percent of the shares in VW ag are actually controlled by Porsche Automobile Holding SE, so technically - and a wee bit tentatively - Porsche owns VW
