992 Launch OPC Chester

[attachment=992 White Front.jpg] We had an excellent evening at the launch of the new 992 at Chester. The 992 is undoubtedly an engineering marvel.
However, I am not sold on its appearance. It seems huge for a start, more of a grand tourer and very angular from the front. I quite like the Leather/Fabric seat combination and I'm sure the digital display is something you would get used to. I don't like the "Remington Microscreen" PDK lever or the odd looking cup holder in the centre console although that is removable and can be fitted with a tray as an alternative which is stored loosly in the glove compartment. There is some strange alchemy going on with the exhaust outlet (see photo) both with standard and sports exhaust. I imagine this is some emission regulation "garbage"! What you see externally is just a chrome blank as on most production cars. I'm sure it will be great to drive but for looks alone I would take a 991.2 all day long.

Took a Carrera 2S out for a test drive this morning. Awesome is the word I would use. The interior is spot on, even the stubby gear lever! The test car did not have the centre cup holder fitted, just the tray, but I could see it being a little too close to the handbrake lever. That being my only gripe. The dashboard display I think is a master class, combining the analogue rev counter with the electronic display. To drive, I found the ride was superb, even over some rough B roads, the turn in through the bends was inspiring. Engine noise a bit subdued, more turbo whoosh than mechanical. This particular car didn't have sports exhaust fitted. But I came back with a huge grin on my face.
Not used to putting photographs on here but you can see photos on my twitter post.....

These are the cars which appeared at the Bolton launch on Wednesday and I was at Porsche Centre Wilmslow when they arrived this morning for the launch tonight.
It's going to be a great night.
