Discs and pads

Hello All

sorry if this has been talked about time and time again.

i need some some new front discs and pads for my 996, I have original parts and they have lasted incredibly well, when I bought the car it had brand new discs and pads but they were none Porsche parts, I had to get them replaced as I had some bad vibration from them.

I have checked prices for new porsche parts and it is very expensive for disc and pads, I guess you pay for what you get but thought I would see if anyone else has bought alternatives parts that have been as good?

Thanks Phil

Phil,

I believe that the original brake discs and pads are manufactured by Sebro and Textar respectively.

I'm sure you can find suitable suppliers for 996 parts online which will be much cheaper than the Porsche parts and are identical but don't have a Porsche part number.

Jeff

Yes my understanding was Textar are OE supplier and they also own several other brands such as Pagid etc

ive been looking at Textar thtoughout for my 997 but they don’t seem to offer rear discs!?! Open to correction.

intrested to hear what you go with and who you source them from.....following.

I fitted Brenbo discs (actually made by Textar, I believe) and Textar pads to the front of my 986. Purchased from Euro Car Parts in one of their 'flash sales' (about as regular as DFS's furniture sales...), I paid about £170 for the lot. I can't fault them.

Chaps,

CarParts4Less (identical website to Euro Car Parts!) stock Sebro discs and Textar pads and have 50% off at the moment. Check to see if they're available for your 996/997.

Jeff

Sebro/Textar are the preferred/best option

Carparts4less are the 'online' company of ECP with increased discounts but they do both offer differnt discounts so it pays to compare....

Hello all

thanks for your help. I have ordered the Sebro discs and Texter pads all on for £147.00 seems very good, even though the order would not let me add left side on but would make a pair, so hopefully it has ordered left and right i will check with them in the morning To be sure.

Thanks again.

Cheers Phil

Not quite sure what you have ordered but when I add those 3 parts to the basket it comes to more than £147.

You probably need the sensors and anti squeal pads as you say yours are original.

IMHO all decent German discs and pads are fine, any problems with noise or vibration is normally caused by poor installation.

Sebro are not what would be in the box from Porsche, they would be SHW but you wont find them outside OPC.

Textar are in the Porsche box although the compound may be different, Textar dont release all pads as they supply them to Porsche.

These are what i have ordered there was a further 17% off. I don't have the sensors but can order these separately if I need to. Hoping this his should work out ok ? Thanks Phil

Wrong pads, those for the rear. Also if you have ordered 2 front left discs, you will get 2 front left discs I reckon!

yes my error ordered rear pads have changed to front now so has pushed price up a little.

With the Discs this is how it picked them as a set but it does show as 2 left which is odd I will check this tomorrow with them.

Thanks Phil

Hi Phillipe,

These are what are showing for my 996 4S, not sure if your car is a 3.4 though but it definately shows both L & R items....

SEBRO Brake Disc (Front Left)Product Code: 104330712

SEBRO Brake Disc (Front Right)Product Code: 104330722

Price before 17% discount is: £81.07

When I fitted mine I couldn't get front Textar pads & contacted TMD Friction via email for help.

Hope this helps

Regards

Paul

Those are for the turbo/C4S etc, no good for a standard 996, the 2 correct discs are visible to me when I entered a reg number for a 996

You wont get the correct Textar pads for a turbo/C4S outside of OPC, hence you couldnt find them on the site

Sebro/Textar are the OPC parts available from Europarts . Any Garage with Porsche experience will be able to fit . OPC are becoming increasing expense , on special tools are needed . I got Dove House in Rushden to do my Turbo

See my post above, Sebro are not what you get from Porsche, they are however excellent quality and you shouldnt have any worries about fitting them!

I had Sebro discs fitted twice in the early years of my ownership. On both occasions they rusted out fairly quickly on the inner surfaces and warped over time. I now fitted Pagid with both discs and pads from eurocarparts but always look for bargain deals. Have always been able to replace original dampers. If you are any good at diy this is a fairly easy task to do, just need to make sure discs are fitted to the correct side. Screws on the discs sometimes require an impact driver to get off as they can seine depending on who fitted them previously..... Good luck

Great thanks for all your help I have ordered the Sebro and texter so hope they work ok can't justify the Porsche genuine parts. I use Dove House who have been great but also have a great guy locally who can fit them.

cheers Phil

Phil,

Just to add that I'm pretty sure Dove House always fit Textar pads if you don't ask specifically for Porsche parts. Not sure about Sebro discs, but you could always check with them.

Jeff

Will you not need new calliper stretch bolts too? These are usually one use only items on Porsches?

Just a thought! [;)]

Just replaced my fronts discs, pads, sensors and vibe pads on my C4S as the previous Pagid discs with Pagid pads had warped once after about 6000Klms, been machined then started to shake again whilst braking after approx. 1500Klms![] Replaced by my Indy with Sebro discs, Porsche pads (Textar), sensors and vibe pads last week. He has used this combination always except when the customer requires Porsche items and has always found them to be very good has never had a problem with this combo. So far so good![:)]
