sound system upgrade

Morning all

After a crazy weekends weather lets hope spring starts to settle down and offers some great drives.

I was after some advice or details of any experience reference audio upgrades.. My 997 came with the standard audio set up and speakers (No Bose) so is a little lacking for my taste.. Could anyone give any pointers on possible upgrades?

I ideally don't want to change the standard head unit from the original for obvious reasons but wondered if others have upgraded by means of amp and speakers. Any input would be welcome as would recommendations on local installers (Gloucestershire / Worcestershire areas etc)

Cheers.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any tech articles that spring to mind which deal with just the speakers as most focus on people who want to replace the man PCM unit with something newer.
That said, there are some good articles on the Pelican Parts Website - https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/996_tech.htm - where you'll be able to find how to remove both the head unit and door panels, which should hopefully give you some insight into what it's like when disassembled, and how to replace the speakers.
Note that while this says '996' it's a merged area dealing with both 996 and 997 tasks.

Hope this helps!

I will have a look at that thank you, but I'm not too good with the techy stuff myself.. I always seem to have more bits left over than I start with LOL:ROFLMAO:.. I really wanted to know if anyone had improved the sound of the standard system by adding an amp and or upgrading the speakers.. I'm not really keen on changing out the front end of the PCM as I want to keep the look as standard as possible.

Hi i have recently bought a 997 without the Bose upgrade and was looking to do a similar upgrade . Did you have any luck with an upgrade ?

many thanks

Jim

I had an audio guy fit a sub and amp combined from pioneer. This much improves the quality and keeps std head unit. This was fitted to a pcm4 unit

When I did mine I changed out all the speakers for Audioson and had a new amp with the facility to adjust the equalise etc from my phone. Still kept the original front end… It transformed the sound quality and detail immensely. It cost me about £900 altogether if I recall

Thanks Ray that’s exactly what I’m looking to do where did you get the work done ?

cheers Jim

Hi Jim

I used a company called "Motor Mods" just outside Tewkesbury.. They do everything aftermarket there including Dash cams, audio, cruise, parking sensors etc etc.

I’ve been looking at the Joyeauto mods to the PCM 3.0/3.1 which appear to add functionality rather than quality improvements eg CarPlay/ Android Auto etc. over better sound quality-I believe it utilises the aux input so some compression must go on there.
anybody done it?
it retains the original look which is a good thing. Not sure if it would be better to put in an aftermarket eg Pioneer etc?
