Air filter

My 2006 Caymans is in for its service in two weeks time the exhaust has been changed to a performance one while they are in engine bay is it worth upgrading to a K&N air filter from the original would I see any gains

Upgrade air filters such as the K&N give 1-2 bhp increase at peak bhp, but seem to lose up to 4bhp from tickover up to that peak.

I think it was carwow who posted a video on youtube a while back during a visit to Surrey Rolling Road.

Only benefit he really though was the improvement in induction sound.

I've just had a major service, plugs, water pump etc etc and I just had a genuine filter put back in.

Here you go - found it

Mark,

As James has pointed out, you're unlikely to see any meaningful gains other than maybe a very slight improvement in induction sound - but that's more than likely to be drowned out by your sports exhaust..! Also, you need to take care that any fluid used to bathe the filter element doesn't contaminate the MAF.

There have been reports that the K&N filter is a bit fiddly to fit - the BMC filter seems to be prefered for fit and quality.

Mine has just gone 2 years and about 28k miles between changes.

When I went in to Porsche Nottingham I asked them to put everything they exchanged for new in the boot of the car.

So I have plugs, filters, belts, water pump etc

Air filter didn't look too bad tbh, but will certainly benefit from being replaced.

If you want more induction noise you can always do the De-Snork by taking out the left side grille and removing the baffle plate behind it, there is an increased risk of pulling something into the intake such as leaves and bits of light debris but it has a long way to climb before it gets to the filter.
