This is R10's first attempt at an overseas trip for several years - if you like French food, picturesque villages, historic ports and scenic drives, all in great company, this is the short break for you!
Leaving Eurotunnel, we will head south, stopping in Eu, a very historical town with an impressive abbey for lunch. If we haven't spent too much time indulging, we will follow the coast road to Étretat and then on to our base at Honfleur. Hotels are yet to be considered, although a straightforward practical choice might be Hotel Mercure which has been used happily by R20 on other occasions.
Day two will take the form of a scenic drive encompassing part of the Cider Route, a visit to Beuvron-en-Auge, a traditional village with wood-framed houses, then north to the "Gold Landing" beach. We will return across Pegasus bridge and back along the coast road. This will give your Porsche a good workout, and you a chance to see a bit of everything.
Day three gives you the opportunity to explore Honfleur's Saturday market and more of the town if you wish. It's surrounded by things to see and do, so you can please yourself and choose your own options. Could that be Monet's Garden at Giverny, the Bayeux Tapestry, Deauville and Trouville, a journey on the Suisse Normandie Route, or further exploration of the Landing Beaches or Cider Route? Or you could just chill out in the hotel or around town!
Day four sees a return up the coast with a chance to visit the spa town of Le Touquet to soak up the relaxed atmosphere before the thrilling drive across the "caps", on to the Tunnel, and back to Blighty.
September seems a long way off, but it needs to go firmly in the diary now, and it would be good to have your commitment early. As ever, please note your intentions on this thread, and email mark.grimwood1@btinternet.com to confirm. More details and hotel options will follow in due course.
Bonnes vacances!
