To change the clutch or not?

Hi Guys, I'm having some gearbox work done so the labour has already been taken care of to get to the clutch. However, Porsche garage are telling me they still need to remove some plates and bolts to take out the clutch to inspect it and are quoting me £180 just to inspect. My 997 is 14 years old and there is 52k on the clock. The clutch doesn't feel like its worn but I'm considering if its worth changing whilst the gearbox is out? Any thoughts welcome.

Get the clutch done and an updated IMS at the same time while it is in bits. For the sake of the parts it shouldn't be too much more in labour... Especially if you are going to keep the car..

Have you thought about taking to a specialist an not Porsche. Porsche will screw you in labour.....

Its with OPC as it was under warranty, so the gear box is covered, hence I'm stuck with their higher labour charges. The fustrating part is that I wouldn't have thought it was 1 hour labour to check the clutch given the gearbox is out

Ahh bugger. Have you Google average milage for a clutch? Mines a tip so wouldn't know sorry.

That's good. how much would it cost for the clutch and a new IMS? IMS is right by the clutch. If you had to throw a grand At it it may be worth it. Get a low temperature thermostat done at same time.

I’ve only looked at replacing the clutch ... roughly £600 parts plus labour so just under £1k

If you intend to keep it go for it while it's in peices.... you don't want a poss 4.5k bill in 10k miles....
Safe guard it with what you can while it's in peices buddy.

I have heard people changing IMS when doing clutch
If that is a 2005 car then it should have the none changeable IMS, will need to split the cases.

Had clutch and IMS seal replaced at 45,578 miles on mine last July.

Engine number from M97/0168509791 has the larger revised bearing fitted.
Mine has production date 30.03 2005 had the larger bearing fitted then.
