1973 windscreen wipers?

On my list of errands to do before Spring arrives, I have tried in vain to find wipers that actually work, do not smear, do not simply splash the washer water off the ends to the wiped screen.
That is wipers that work!

Is this quest a lost cause or is there a demon solution?
Thanks, Graham.

Hi Graham,
You need to clean your screen and the blades with firstly RainEX glass polish then apply RainEX and ensure the blades are fully in contact with the screen.
If not it may be the arms that are weak. These can cause the blades to simply skim over the surface without applying sufficient pressure to clear the water.

Regarding your other problem with the tyres, wheel alignment can have no affect on balance. I suggest you take those tyres back to whoever supplied them and have them replaced as obviously there is a manufacturing fault...seen it before.
Jack the car, up spin the wheel and position something very close to the tread and see if there is a change in the gap, if their is the tyres have a manufacturing fault as they should be round.
Anyone who says they can balance wheels and puts weights on more than one place on the rim does not know what they are doing.

Hope this helps
Graeme

Hello!
wiper..
several of the early car boys on ddk have said the same.
the arms are the 1973 originals, so maybe a change is in order.
tyre..
yes, they are a worry.
now 2 years old, so no chance of returning them.
all 5 have a lot of weights added to the wheels for balance which makes me suspicious of them.
they run ok now, but will they last?
Ive chalked them up while off the ground rotating, and both have approx 33% of the circumference low by about 1mm compared to the rest of the diameter.
laterally they are true.

Thanks for the numbers.
the right hand blade (rhd car) hangs off the glass by 75mm along the blade, so maybe fresh arms will help.
Porsche only Autojumble on Saturday, so might find something newer there!

All 911 wiper arms from Porsche are now the 964 numbered ones with double springs, £150 each! If your car is LHD then your ok as there are aftermarket versions for about £20 each, if your car is RHD I suppose you could bend a straight arm to fit.

Yes, the price is silly, and why Mine are still from 1973.
new blades arrived this morning, will be on the car soon.
