987.2: last errands done!

Big trip building up in the Boxster, so it needs to be ship-shape for the Tour.

Just collected the car from Zuffenhaus in Birmingham having had the exhaust 'triangle' fasteners (that had all but disappeared) replaced with stainless proper nuts and bolts/gaskets, the two rear clamp rings (that had corroded and split) and the AOS I bought at OPC Wolverhampton fitted, though I don't think it was broken, but as I had it, Zuffenhaus fitted it for me.
If the car has cold start smoke now there is nothing I can do except buy an AUDI TT!

Dead easy to deal with, dropped the car off at 8.30am and picked it up at 2.30pm having 'survived' a shopping spree in Solihull/John Lewis with minimal damage.
The Zuffenhaus bill was not a fright either!

Great Independent imho, and not too far from me, just 1 hour in the rush hours.

Last week had 2 new rear tyres fitted, N1 approved on the 10" rims. Do they ever weigh a lot!

Last errand is the MoT in March and a discussion I'm sure about rusty disc brakes...
Then all is ready.

You are wise to have had the jobs carried out before embarking on your tour. We covered about 2,300 miles on a trip to Austria last year and our 987.1 Boxster S ran faultlessly. I had a minor service and exhaust bilts etc replaced since we didn’t want a drooping exhaust!

As I’m sure you will aware from this and other forums, ocassional and sometimes embarrassing smoke on start up on flat 6 engines is common and in most cases doesn’t indicate an engine fault, they all do it. I’m sure you’ll be able to find technical explanations about why it happens. Please don’t be overly concerned unless you’re having to frequently top up your oil. Enjoy your tour when the time comes.

Ye, I'm resigned to if the car burps, then so be it.

cant think or find anything to do to eradicate it except sell the car!

Ive invested a lot in the car now, and want to get the benefit, so intend to keep it and get more miles on the car having fun.

The car sounds great at 6000 rpm, what an engine!!!!

All over the place.

Trying to keep the driving to max 500 km a day so we can actually see some of the villages etc.

That’s a pretty high mileage to cover day after day if you want to savour the scenery and delights of towns and villages. I think it’s probable that you’ll spend longer than you think you will in interesting places. Except on some stretches of autobahn progress is generally slower than in the U.K. due to speed limits and to see and enjoy places you really want to be on minor roads. One criticism of the organised tour we went on to Austria was that some of the driving became something of a slog rather than a pleasure.

Just words of advice based on our experiences touring in the countries you are going to.

Agree, should have said the runs into and out of Italy are about 500km, we have far far less km in Italy.

2 overnights going in, 2 to come back.
