When was bridge spoiler first fitted to 944 S2?

My 944 S2 first regisred in March 1991 has a black rubber rear spoiler and I believe that to be original. Several times people have argued that it should have a bridge spoiler. Does anyone know when, at what VIN number, the bridge spoiler became standard? I would love to be able to give a definitive response.
 
I've never seen a bridge spoiler on an S2....I thought it was only on the turbo but stand to be corrected if I have this wrong?

my '91 S2 ROW car has a bridge spoiler. Literature such as Excellence Magazine buyers guides and PCNA Panorama club magazine on the 944 models indicate the bridge spoiler was introduced on 1991 models as the only significant change to the 944 range after the 3.0 engine in the 1989 S2. Bridge spoiler also noted as the "968" spoiler as it was the standard spoiler on the 968s through to 1995.
Is it possible your car is a 1990 model even tho first registered in 1991? See below...10th character of VIN gives model year...AFAIK L=1990 and M=1991. I don't know how to determine the actual production date...my Certificate Of Authenticity from Porsche does not provide that level of detail.

I know for certain that some of the 1991 MY were fitted with a bridge spoiler; a friend with a K registered S2 has one. Mine, probably built late 1990, registered in March 1991 has and I believe always has had a rubber spoiler.

I don't think the Turbo models got a bridge spoiler ever. Good question tho as the '91 was the only year 944 that got a bridge spoiler. The turbo "officially" ended in 1989 so there should have been no turbos produced with a bridge spoiler. About the only visual difference between an S2 and a turbo is rear badging and the small front splitter on the bottom of the bumper cover so easy to mistake the two from a distance, in traffic, etc.

AFAIK The Turbo Coupe ran until the 91 model year in the UK. My mid 91 registered Turbo has always had a bridge spoiler.
 
Might be a bit of a "what have we left in the parts bin” situation as things were starting to get a bit hairy in the global finance markets by 91, and then the next 5 years were a close call for Porsche
 
Thank you to everyone who has responded, especially Bruce Nelson for that very useful chart. My car is indeed a 1990 year model L = 1990 and I’m sure that explains why it does not have the bridge spoiler of the 1991 model year cars. It must have been produced before September but was not registered until March 1991. That poses another question; do I describe the car for example on concours entry forms as 1990 or 1991 as shown on the DVLA 5C? I imagine that it’s usual to state the year as shown on the V5C since most people will not know when their car was built.

So much confusion around this...Waylander's probably right, they were moving production from 944 at Neckarsulm to 968 at Stuttgart.

According to its Certificate of Authenticity my car left the factory September 1990, but has a letter M in its VIN...1991?

First registered January 1992. Oh, and it has a bridge spoiler!
 
Turbo got bridge spoiler in MY90 and the S2 a year later in MY91. And yes L denotes MY90 and M denotes MY91 like has been pointed out. You should refer to the car by it's year designation and not its actual date of manufacture. That way there is no confusion about its spec. My car was built half way through 1989 but is actually an MY90. I have the MY90 brochure where it talks about the new bridge spoiler and says it is a functional as well as aesthetic improvement and produces more downforce than its rubber predecessor.

The S2 could also have a colour coded bridge spoiler whereas I've only ever seen the turbo with a black bridge from the factory.

My registered in august 90 Turbo coupe has a body colour bridge spoiler and It was never black, well not unless they stripped all the black off before painting it!

Unusual Tony. Never seen a turbo with a factory coded spoiler. Have seen a red turbo with a red bridge but it was black before the owner had it sprayed red! Possibly you could have requested it? Mine defo always been black. All the pics in the 90 brochure show a black spoiler on a blue car.

I hit mine on the inside of a fibreglass garage door / it took it down to the raw material at 2 points, no sign of any black so I think body colour must have been an option, pretty sure Fen's glacier(?) blue one was blue from the factory too.

So for clarity for the OP. It was definitely MY90 for the turbo and MY91 for the S2. Colour coding appears to have been an option for both models. Every day is a school day!

Just to add, I've seen a red turbo with red bridge spoiler, no idea if it came from the factory like it.......:)
