New 718 GTS - "essential" options

Any views on whether a 718 GTS needs any options which are essential - must haves - for either for practicality or residual value?

by a 2nd hand one, they are dropping like a stone, OPC cannot shift 718's :-(

there is even a rumor the Cayman will return with a flat6. and the T models will be entry level into Porsche like the old days with the crap engines.

The GTS is a well optioned car but personally I'd never spec a new car without cruise control and climate control, regrettably neither of which are standard features; nor are parking sensors. And I can recommend the PDLS if you're doing a lot of night driving or if, like myself, your age means that you're becoming "optically challenged"..!

Everything else depends upon your driving preferences - touring, fast road driving, track days, posing, etc. - and the depth of your pockets.

With respect, the author's post was not asking for an opinion on the merits/demerits of the 718 or indeed, it's longevity or residual values. Those of us who are regulars on this forum are already well aware that you, and others with similar entrenched views on the 4-pot turbo, take great glee at decrying the 718 at every available opportunity.

As for your comment that OPC's cannot currently shift 718's. To my knowledge, this is not only confined to the 718 range.

To respond to your original question, I would agree with Jeff, that the choice of optional extras is very much down to personal preferences, and the type of roads and driving journeys the car will be used for. If it is of any help at all, I refer you to my own thread on this forum regarding my own choice of spec for my 2019 718 Cayman GTS PDK.

Regarding the effect of optional extras on the subsequent residual value, well specced cars will always attract a higher trade-in value. My research on the GTS spec involved speaking to Porsche owners who had the optional PCCB on their cars, and also sales staff who had such cars presented for trade-in. The consensus was that a small premium may be attributable at trade-in time with cars fitted with PCCB. As with all options, you will not recover the original outlay.

Good luck with your quest for your new 718 Cayman GTS. As a second-time owner of a Cayman 718 following three previous 6 cylinder Caymans, I can unreservedly say it is significantly better car in every dynamic and technological department than the equivalent model 981 Cayman on a like-for-like basis. The Cayman GTS PDK is a very capable car.
