987.1 Boxter S - Headlamp Washers Not WOrking - Can Anyone Help Please?

Hi, new member here. Bought a 2005 Boxter S last May and thoroughly enjoying tinkering with it and improving it but currently stumped by the headlamp washers which don't work. I have removed the washer tank and pump and checked it across the battery so the pump works fine. I have also checked the relays and they all seem to be fine too. I am now suspecting the button on the wiper stalk switch but haven;t got round to removing it because I need to take the steering wheel off. The dealer said it might be the front control box!
Has anyone else managed to solve this problem before? If so I would appreciate some advice.
Thanks
Paul

Worth also checking the tubes themselves - Couple of years ago I had to have mine replaced ... seems that the OPC screenwash can gunk them up to the point of blocking them if they are not used regularly ...

Stating the obvious but just in case do you have the lights switched on? I had the experience of failure in NCT (MOT) when tester hadn't done so.

Hi

Has the battery been disconnected - is so then it probably needs a vehicle handover completed (a diagnostic procedure done on PIWIS).
Washers along with heated seats for some un-explained reason lose functionality sometimes if the battery is disconnected.
Although Porsche will never admit to it, its a design fault.

I along with a number of other members, and specialists, porsche centres can complete this process.

Thanks

I had the same thought. Car resets itself to factory ship state if the battery is disconnected and needs reprogramming to fix. I ‘lost’ my heated seats changing the battery. I recall other options were affected, could be headlight washers

Thanks to all who have suggested fixes. Yes I have the lights on when testing and nothing. There is no sound of the pump trying to pump against bunged up tubes so I’m sceptical thats the answer but the resetting sounds feasible.
Im already best friends with the service manager at my local OPC so I’ll ask him if he thinks it could be that and if he could reset it for me while he’s programming a new spare key for me.
If anyone has actually had this issue fixed before I’d be very interested to hear.

What is PIWIS?

I never expected so many great responses so quickly - thanks.

PIWIS is the Porsche diagnostic tool used by all the Porsche Centres and some Porsche independent specialists.

If the OPC is going to be programming keys it's the work of seconds to do the vehicle handover - it might even be part of the "porsche" process - but they certainly shouldn't charge you for it since the car is already plugged into the appropriate piece of equipment. If that doesn't work then the diags should be able to tell if the switch is working.

Common things that "dtop off" are headlight washers, heated seats and interior lights

Let us know how it goes.

I can now close this off finally.
I was at the OPC in Aberdeen on a club Car Clinic and I mentioned it to the technician. He connected his laptop to the OBD and one minute later the headlamp washers were working.... so it WAS a "vehicle handover" that was required after all (a diagnostic procedure done on PIWIS).

Thanks to everyone who responded and if you experience similar you will now know what the solution is.

Yes Richard, the lights need to be switched on to operate the washers on dipped and main beam, as per the Driver's Manual.
