Boxster 987 Engine Rebuild -any advice?

I‘ve just had my IMS bearing blow on my 2005 Boxster S and now facing an estimated £7k rebuild cost with local independent Porsche specialist. Any views on advantages of using a engine rebuild specialist, can i shave the cost without compromising rebuild quality and general recommendations/considerations?
many thanks

Sorry to hear about your problem Paul.

I'd be inclined to discuss your requirements with Hartech https://www.hartech.org/

They have extensive experience repairing the modern watercooled Porsche engines and can give you some advice and possible costs for repairs.

I agree with Jeff, Harteck rebuilt my engine on a 987.1 3.2 S last year and did a magnificent job. Helpful, honest and what grant doesn’t know about these engines it’s not worth knowing

Thanks all for coming back to me. I spoke to several garages, all were helpful but I think am going to go with Grant at Hartech as they seem to have in-depth rebuild expertise.

depends on extent of engine damage when it’s stripped down, if not much damage circa £7.5k. Painful, in hindsight due to risk I would avoid pre 2006 models when they fixed the ims problem.

Really sorry to hear this if your car is a 2005 model I would be interested to know what IMS bearing is fitted to your car as this was the cross over year for the generation 3 bearing fitted which is bigger and fatter (mine has this bearing 2006)
