993 Battery

I need a new battery for the 993.. Not really sure what to go for - Yuasa seem a good option but there are quite a few different models, Ah ratings, and prices. I don't have aircon or a power hungry stereo but do have an immobiliser.

Would appreciate any advice on recommendations.

Many Thanks
Mark

Any battery of the appropriate size and power should be fine [;)]... doesn’t have to say Bosch or anything on it!
Use your car regularly and it will last for years.

My 10-year old Bosch battery died last November and I got another Bosch from CarParts4Less for just over £100 delivered. Same part from ECP was about £180ish, which is crazy as it's the same company so I understand. Other recommendations ranged from Halfords, where their warranty seemed to include perpetual exchange within the time period, or a company on eBay who were also competitive on price and warranty and delivered for free and promptly.
The details of my post, as I'd asked a similar question as yours, are on 911.UK. You'll get the name of the eBay company too, which I cannot recall offhand. If you search on eBay you are bound to find them as they are big suppliers of automotive batteries, based up North.

Batteries? Very much like a tyre debate, which is best? I have over the years had all manner of makes of batteries. I purchased a pair of Varta batteries for my winter pack 4X4 Pajero last year. I have had Yuasa batteries but which is the better of the two makes? One thing you should take into consideration is Cold Cranking Amps. This is for me a must when choosing a battery.

Look after your battery and it will look after your starting. I do a lot of short runs so to compensate I have my batteries on manged charge every night. As you are aware winter months take their toll on batteries when we have all the electrics working overtime so I put the charge back in through my overnight charge.

Many thanks for helpful posts. In the end I've gone for a Bosch S5008 which has very good ratings and comes in at around £95 delivered from Tayna!

I'm a bit of Halfords own brand battery fan. I suspect the 993 uses a 096 battery. £101 from Halfords with a 4 year guarantee. £81 if you have a trade card.

Buying a battery via mail order is fine but if it dies in warranty getting it replaced is aggro. With Halfords it's dead easy 7 days a week and if you don't have the receipt they'll go off the manufacturing date stamped onto the case.

Just my tuppence...

Oh, and when the car's not being used connect a battery maintainer. Ctek for £60+ or Aldi/Lidl for £14. I have a car that gets used perhaps 1000 miles a year and is still on the same battery after 10 years - thanks to a battery maintainer.

Good point. Despite numerous instructions on the box to keep it horizontal the courier delivering my battery from CarParts4Less handed it to me on end!
Not sure if this had any detrimental effect but when I measured the voltage it was less than that present in the old battery, and that wouldn't start the car. In this instance, ECP sent a replacement battery from their local store, which was fine. Had I needed to return it via a courier it would have been a pain and a further delay. That said, CarParts4Less were not desperately prompt in responding to my emails highlighting the problem, but did say they were having issues with this particular courier (DHL, I think).
