Purchasing dilemma

HI
I m considering a macan as my daily driv, but unsure as whether a late diesel or new petrol will be best for me
Annual mileage approximately 12,000 and good residual value is important
Any advice would be much appreciated

You're probably just about on the cusp of whether the mileage makes the diesel worthwhile.

I'd say on residuals, maybe go for the petrol as there's uncertainty in the diesel market.

However - many manufacturers are bringing out new diesel cars and they're not just going to disappear in the next 2-3 years.

I've got a diesel daily and two petrols for fun days [8D]

If I were spending £40-50k on a car I would probably go petrol

 
Good question. Macan SD is undoubtedly a great daily driver. I have owned one for over 4 years now, so have some experience. A tankful of fuel gives a range of over 500 miles and it regularly returns 35 miles per gallon plus, just running around town - with a significant improvement on long runs. It's nippy with plenty of grunt and a delight to drive anywhere.

On the question of residuals it's anyone's guess, but I would imagine you can currently get quite a good deal on an oil burner and future values could hold up quite well as they become increasingly rare.

I drive the 2.0 litre. It’s manages around 34 mpg. At the moment that is your only option if you go the new route as the bigger engines not yet passed the new emission tests.

I see that the diesels have taken a hit on residals relative to Petrol. My crystal ball tells me that petrol will have a premium over the diesel in the long term. By how much is a guess.

We have run a Audi A6 Allroad as our Dog car since 2006. The last variant MY2011 managed 35mpg our lastest MY2015 with 272 bhp does a bit better around 37 mpg. This engine is the same Audi mull that Porsche used. Fab engine pulls very strong. great torque.

I wouldn't rule out an SD as a daily driver. We've had ours since June 2016 (bought at 11 months old with 10k miles from a Porsche Centre) and have covered 28k miles since at an average 37 mpg. However, at 38k miles it is approaching a £1000 service and £400 worth of tyres so we've been looking for a replacement for a few weeks. We've had a deposit on a build slot for a new Macan since September but having seen the new one in the metal, we decided that it wasn't different enough to justify shelling out another £30k for one and besides the new 2.0 petrol would be no more powerful or economical than our SD and the new S isn't yet available to test drive.

So we started looking for suitable 'old model' alternatives, initially preferring petrol, and ruling out the 2.0 litre model, but found the GTS to be expensive and thirsty and the S to be rare and almost as thirsty. It was also difficult to find a spec that suited us. To cut a long story short, this afternoon we agreed a deal on a May 2017 SD with 11,000 miles and balance of manufacturers warranty at an independent dealer only 10 miles from home. I'm not sure whether diesel prices have taken a hit recently but we're happy with the deal we negotiated. Depreciation on our 2015 car was £20k in 30 months. Photo and spec below.

I've heard good things about Porsche Kendal (Parker & Parker) in terms of deals and customer service. Personally, I've used PC Leicester for my last 2 purchases from Porsche Centres and have been happy although I'm not sure I got much of a deal there. I guess the current situation with Gen II cars is one of supply and demand - there is a limited number of new Macans available so Centres can insist on sticker prices being paid AND offer minimum part exchange values. If you don't take the deal they're offering, someone else will!

(BTW, I'm delighted with my Gen I Diesel - loved every one of the 150 miles driven today!

 
Ive had my Macan DS for a little over 2 years, bought from an OPC at a year old and 9k on the clock. Ive had no end of issues with it and is back in my local OPC for investigation into a leak into the cabin as the rear footwell behind the drivers seat is soaking wet and all the windows inside are constantly dripping with water.

Other issues include a new PDK box, power steering failure, etc....

Frankly this Macan is the worst Porsche i have ever owned for continuous faults, Friday Car??????

Sold My SD Macan to Cridfords recently after nearly 4 years of untroubled ownership. High spec car still for sale after 2 weeks I note..A Great car and sold for a new Cayenne which arrives in Q2
