718 - air-con blower not working

A very common problem with 981 and 991-series cars David which looks as though it's been carried over to the 718. In fact there's been a thread on the forum in the past few days on this topic to which I responded.

If you remove the under-bonnet cover and filter on the RHS you can get access to the fan and give it a spin. That should clear the problem either temporarily or permanently, depending upon how lucky you are. Otherwise it's a trip to the Porsche Centre for rectification if you can demonstrate the problem to them - if you're lucky they'll replace the motor.

Hi Jeff - perhaps for reference at this stage.....just in case....I understand the removal of the under bonnet cover...where is the filter please?

I have a recurring rattle from the passenger side dashboard....Porsche Teeside replaced the cup holders and everything appeared to working ok and not rattling then when I did about 200 miles in the car, the rattle came back. Went back in on Thursday of last week, couldn’t replicate. Started on the way home and did it when I was out today....was wondering if it was the fan or something in the air circulation system, hence understanding of location etc would be useful.....thank you Paul

Paul,

I'm not sure which version of Cayman you have but on the 987-series there's a cover to gain access to the cabin filter on rear R/H corner under the bonnet, next to the battery. Remove the cover and filter clamp and you can then remove the filter and get limited access to the heater ducting and - hopefully - the fan. This video shows the necessary steps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCrEPd8qLns I think the procedure's similar for the 981-series (and maybe the 718) but I think there's another filter in the driver's (R/H) footwell too.

As far as your rattle is concerned it sounds as though Teeside have taken the easy route so far. A rattle in the dashboard area could require removal of the whole instrument panel which I would assume is quite a length task.

A stupid comment perhaps but it has been known for owners to complain about dashboard rattles which have been traced to items rattling around in the glove compartment..!

thanks Jeff - it’s a 718 - I wish I had something in the glovebox....I wouldn’t mind feeling very stupid if it fixed the rattle...
